Do UF/UT OL star ratings matter?

. But there’s a reason why you need more than 6 total Oline recruits in 4 years (dumbass Champ). 4-5 a year is the way to go.
Leyer and Daz had 2 OL in 4 years.

Chimp had one class with only 2 OL.

Yes, we MUST get back to signing 5 at least a year. The attrition and injuries are the highest at any position and unlike WR, RB, or DB, there is no hope that a freshman OL can be functional.

Generally 5 star players have a higher rate of success.

In the upcoming UT/UF game there will be three 5 star OLs. UF has Ivey. UT has Trey Smith and Drew Richmond at OT who were higher ranked than Ivey.

UT has TWO 5 star OL starters plus TWO 4 star OL starters and ONE 3 star OL starter.

UF has ONE 5 star OL starter. And FOUR 3 star OL starters.

Our DL has a more difficult challenge in the trenches than the UT DL does if you look at star ratings.

I watched Tenn's O line a little bit in their last game against that joke opponent. Not a good opponent to base things on but it appeared their tackles were decent but the interior wasn't that great. Their center is definitely not the strongest guy out there and got thrown on his butt a few times while blocking.

I don't know about you but here are the OL numbers for Meyer: 2005 (3), 2006 (4), 2007 (3), 2008 (3), 2009 (5), 2010(2). Yeah that last class was heavily defense oriented and unbalanced, although it was the #1 class.

The 2011 was Creyer's class too. Two Daz Connecticut specials: Thurman and Jordan.

Vols starting LT, was the overall #1 recruit, for the 2017 class and has acted the part so far

He’s a big boy, so expect a lot of power runs to his side of the line.

Do the transition classes belong to the previous coach or the next coach.
I guess it depends on who recruited them.

EJ was clearly Mullinz but most of the class was Butterteef (really Seider).

The two linemen were Daz and there were only two from the beginning. (We didnt have five and three jumped ship.)

Offensive line is the one position that doesn’t need to heavily rely on star power. Even the best evaluators will tell you it’s the hardest position to evaluate especially at the HS level. Get guys with good feet and the size you want, and coach them up. But there’s a reason why you need more than 6 total Oline recruits in 4 years (dumbass Champ). 4-5 a year is the way to go.
I sure wish UF got 5 star Leatherwood instead of Bama. All the star ratings classes have failures and 5 star Ivey may be one of them.

The best is to have high star rated and system trained upperclassmen. But all the star ratings categories have over achievers to.

Our 3 star RT has appeared to be one of those over achievers. He had the fire to lose his excess weight which had lowered him to a 3 star. If you have a good weight program ( not Mac) it helps build them up as upperclassmen. The 3 star OLS have a higher % failure rate over all.

It is still up in the air with Taylor. He played early but he has been picked on a lot when we go against the better defenses in the SEC.

Both. Neither. Just estimate half are because of the old guy, half are because of the new guy.

Reminds of the of the joke our 1st semester Engineering professor told us:
Engineer and Mathematician are standing in a room with a beautiful naked girl on the other side. They can approach her, each time covering half the distance.
Mathematician throws up his hands and says "I'll never get there".
Engineer grins and says "I'll get close enough".

UK's OL definitely had the advantage of time within their current system on UF. Playing early in the season during UF's new installation period helped UK even more. UF had a bunch of missed assignments.
It would be more useful to add how many downs each played. I don't think any of the KY line started last year.
But I still think some of our guys are just crap. We will see if they get better this year or are replaced.

After the Kentucky loss, a redditor analyzed our recruiting during the Muschamp and McElwain years:

The average quality of our offensive line recruits declined significantly.

@jhbyrd If you want to childishly down vote every comment I've ever made on this board just go to the 2019 recruiting thread that I started....start on page 1 and go from there. You'll get at least a few hundred inside of those 350+ pages.

Speaking of childish I only respond in kind when childishness was initiated by you.

Down voting you is childish? I down voted your ridiculous comments (and they are ridiculous). You think it's "drunk" to post that it would be nice to see Spurrier assist w/ the offense? You down vote a post about a recruit wanting to play at UF, you down vote a post that is simply an article about UF. I could go on and on...but you know what I'm talking about.

I'm just glad the rest of the board knows how to keep you locked inside your own threads so you aren't commenting elsewhere.

You do the same thing. Its all a matter of opinion. When I see you initiate an unusual amount I just respond in kind. The solution is don't initiate.

That’s why you take multiple 4-5* OL every class so you don’t have that problem.

Well, pal, like I said earlier, just to help you out: go to the recruiting thread, start on page 1, and you'll get me to 300, 400 down votes in no time!! Have a great day Jason!
