I was trying to remember a trajectory-changing game since the wheels fell off in Atlanta in '09. We've had a few that came close, a Georgia here and an FSU there and even the teasing dismantling of Ole Miss, but none that altered the course of history in any kind of permanent way.

I think this one has the potential to be that one. Allow me to dream.

A win Saturday and suddenly the season changes from belief that 7-5 is the ceiling to thinking that it's even possible to beat LSU at home and Vandy on the road and go into the bye week before Georgia with a 6-1 record and feeling like it's 1980 all over again.

Oh man, would the buzz be back.

We play in Starkville once in a blue moon, and usually as an annoying anomaly to the sked. Wouldn't you know this would be the year where both teams are 3-1 middlings and there's hype over it being Mullen's first trip back home. The comparisons are inevitable.

That's the buildup on the surface. Below it all, it's going to be to what extent relentless effort and teaching have accomplished so far to help turn the tide for a once elite Florida program that has burned through a pair of failed coaches and drifted into also-ran status since Mullen roamed the sideline next to Urban Meyer.

You can sense the intensity and confidence building with each game. We're far from a great football team, but we're growing and we'll be a great story nationally if we win Saturday in Mullen's old adopted crib. Which is all that you ask for, to get noticed for something positive and to be able to build on it week to week.

It takes tremendous impetus to get a big wheel rolling. It's almost impossible to stop it once you do.

Let's make it happen, guys.

After some JD and reflection, I agree with 78... this is a bigger game against a better team than any other so far this year but LSU is better than MS in my opinion so next week will be even bigger.

Mehhhhhh..... a win versus the loss means what 8th versus 9th in the SEC?

I'm exactly the opposite. last week was the big game, especially when you have Dooley preparing us for 0- 8.

this year never really mattered. just looking for some improvement and an Elite recruiting class.

If you want to pull this recruiting class out of the basement, you damn well better be pulling for the above scenario.

Ole Miss in 2015 is probably the most similar game as far as giving hope just for the current season.

LSU in 2012 possibly as far as the direction of the program (the thinking on that anyway) as they were a top 5 team and we thought we might be able to score some prior to that game due to the defense helping us score and initially thought it might have just been a one game defensive battle. The issue of Driskel was debated like crazy around that time and after that game and the Tenn game etc. that year - kind of like with Franks this season so far.

I think the UGA game in 2012 or the Sugar Bowl in 2012 were the biggest games since 2009. We win vs. UGA we win the East....and if we beat Louisville in the bowl we finish 12-1 w/ strong momentum going into the next year. Instead, we completely sh*t the bed, got blown out....and 2013 was a disaster.

It think EVERY win matters this year, particularly for recruiting. Heading into the season everyone penciled this game in for a loss, now there's some real confidence it can be won. I'd be willing to bet that extends to the players as well as the fans. Let's keep the momentum going.

I want UGA.

Great post '78!

I have seen what I needed to see from this staff, improvements! We have some talent at the skill positions, but overall the team Mullens inherited is middle of the pack. If he can get the most out of these guys, show steady improvements, our ceiling is a lot higher than I thought it would be after KY.

This is a huge game, keep the momentum going, keep building and improving. I want to believe!!

Win or lose, the one game we HAVE to win this year is versus the clowns.

1) Big game as chance for players to reward their new personable real coach, this HC who has regained for them some growing pride.

2) Most certainly this will serve as a "progress verifying" win, magnetizing players and prospective recruits.

3) Will also magnetize fans as well as "human-interest story" CFB color commentators (more recruit luring).

4) Cause a little worry in our future opponents who thought they'd have it easy.

5) Provide the trestle for Franks to high-rail to elevated QB status = higher % of dart-completions with run gains.

6) Hopefully the stage for DM to unbridle Dameon Pierce, Scarlett, Toney & Perrine as Florida's run attack.

7) Chances for McPhearson and Townsend and ST to shine on TV.

8) A workout we hope works out.

It's not gonna be easy. We routinely **** the bed in Starkville and Dan admitted yesterday that MSU knows our offensive and defensive schemes inside and out.

Who are you and what have you done with Donkey?

I think this game will tell us how bad the Vols are.

IMO, that game wasn't a program changer. That team was never the same once Mullen left. We skated through on the back of Timmy in '09. I knew we would be destroyed by Alabama. Steve Addazio was inferior to Mullen.People lament losing Urban, but in truth, we haven't been good on offense since Mullen left as OC. It's why I don't understand why people don't think he'll be successful here.

Mullen as OC and Harvin as game changer. That OL and defense were HOF when they wanted to be.

Wouldnt that be a 2way street being that our staff is the one that created their playbook?

Not enough CAPLOCKS and name_dropping. I'm only partially moved. 6/10.
