If Vandy can take ND down to the wire in South Bend, they can certainly beat us in Nashville if we come in flat and they have a good game.

Regardless, I expected maybe 7-5 record this year or even worse. The W/L isn't really what I was concerned with though. What I wanted to see was some obvious progress. And I think we can all agree that there has been way more progress than almost any of us had hoped for. At this point, even going 3-3 the rest of the way is going to a success story for Mullen, despite the suddenly lofty expectations surrounding the program. All it would take is a key injury or two to really change the outlook for the remainder of the season. But if we continue to run a sound offensive scheme, continue to attack on D, and continue to have solid special teams, and our S&C continues to pay dividends, then I will be pretty pumped for the start of next season.

All that being said, I really hope we pound them like red-headed stepchildren tomorrow.

Losing to UK and Vandy in the same season would erase all the positive momentum Mullen has built. There are 3 must win games left on the schedule and this is one of them.

Don’t kid yourself. If we crap the bed in this game we go from full of promise to sh@tter’s full almost instantaneously.

How it affects you is completely under your own control.

I have no doubt whatsoever that there will be folks melting down after any loss, whether its Vandy or anybody else.

I don't predict scores because I am always wrong and it seems to always come back to bite me. That said, we win handily in Nashville.

I didn't see this mentioned in the Michael thread, but I wonder how much Franks has been sidetracked this week due to the storm. There are probably others who have family affected as well, but I'm pretty sure Crawfordville was right in the line of fire. For obvious reasons I hope everyone is safe. But I also hope that didn't derail his week of practice, because the Vu defense will likely look to rattle him early and get him off his rhythm.

Absolutely, Grantham's gang should make their goal a goose egg and nothing less. Talk about it, chant about it, challenge each other to SHOW OUT and make it happen. In fact their goal should be to outscore Vandy's offense 14-0. Statement game!

Yes, I am probably too optimistic at 48-0. But if Grantham has the D going like they did for much of LSU and the entire 2nd half of MSU, I just don't see Vandy scoring much. I want to see Joseph in their QB's face all the time. If we hold them to just 10, which is highly probable, our O should generate enough to easily win the game. We just cannot start out sluggish, and be keeping them in the game at the half. We have to stop them early and score enough early to put them away.

Although they will probably be looking for it, I'd like to see more of the pitch plays to Perine. One block on the edge and he's deadly in that play. One more good, legal block downfield, and he can rack up a big gainer, or even a TD, on that play.

Georgia's sluggishness last week in the first half against Vandy has many prognosticators thinking that we'll be sluggish too. I don't buy that argument. Although Georgia put them away in the second half, I'd like to show the Puppies what we're made of and put Vandy away in the first half. That way they'll have two weeks to think about THAT.

Not the case at all. Losing to UGA is expected. They have a lot more talent than us and a win would be phenomenal. But you simply can’t lose to a very poor Vandy team, especially when you already have a loss to UK. Luckily it should be a comfortable win as long the team is focused.

That option pitch seemed to be unstoppable last week. Didn't we run it effectively two times in a row at some point? Or maybe my drunk ass was watching an instant replay lol

I thought we did, too. But I just looked at the play-by-play on ESPN, and we didn't. It just seemed that way. Perine DID run the last FIVE plays of the first TD drive, but only one, 13 yds on 2nd and 6 from the LSU 15, was a lengthy run. I know all five weren't pitches, because the TD wasn't. He DID have one big gainer on that play on EACH TD drive.

I think his point is that people will melt down much more after a loss at Vandy than a loss to UGa. I agree with him.

The reason for this is that to win anything in college football you must beat the teams you should every time so that the times you beat the even matches you are positioned to make the playoffs. If Mullen were to have a year where he beat LSU, UGa and FSU marred by losses to UK and Vandy, ones faith that Mullen can coach consistently enough to win championships would be greatly undermined.

Crawfordville was hit pretty good from what I've heard in the office (we have a plant that is right on the border of it).

We need to beat Vandy to set up the possibility of a BIGGER win over UGA, ensure earlier than expected bowl eligibility, and also set up the possibility of a much better than expected bowl (Citrus on New Year's Day?). Losing to Vandy would be a disaster, creating a major letdown before the Cocktail Party. Losing to UGA this year (not in Mullen's future years), while extremely unpleasant, would not be a disaster, as it has long been expected.

Exactly, those of us old enough to remember when UF was in it every year for a decade remember that the big game is any game you lose.

This game should be like every Vandy game from the 90's and 00's. They should play us tough for a lot of the game but we should pull out a decent win in the 4th.

WE don't expect it. EVERYONE ELSE does. If we can pulverize Vandy and Ed O's boys can hang tight with UGA or even beat them, it will strike fear and doubt in the heart of every Puppy. I know - look where I am from - I am surrounded by them, including friends and family. They've been conditioned by 18 years of Steve/Urban and many years of Ray Goof, Donnan, and Richt to expect the worst when we come out of the tunnel in Jax.

Enjoy the puppy.

I will announce following the game tomorrow my conclusion as to whether we will shock the world and upset the Dawgs. My decision will be based 32.7% on our performance against Vanderbilt, 60.5% on how much beer I drank and 6.8% on miscellaneous factors.
60% of the time, that works every time.
