Yeah, but this shows we’re 37 in scoring offense. That’s a helluva big improvement over the past decade.

To me scoring offense is a more important stat than yards. I honestly wasn't expecting Mullen to be able to get the group he inherited into the Top 50 for scoring this season, so I'm pretty stoked with 37.

How many years has it been since we felt we could actually make a drive and score points when we needed to?

577 total yards
284 passing
292 rushing

92 plays
31 first downs

13/19 on 3rd down
3/3 on 4th down

Discuss.

It seemed to me that Champ and Butters never even had an interest in being competitive in games. Mullen clearly shows he wants to be competitive to win.... a novel concept.

Novel, unless your name is Spurrier, Meyer, or Saban, or unless you think the way those guys do.

By the way, it was never my intention to claim that our Gators have a great offense. Far from it - still a long way to go. However, I've been astounded to see us come up with long, sustaining drives when we needed points this season, and especially the last couple of weeks.

For example, when we went down 19-14 to LSU, if this is a Chimp or Butters team, that game is over right there. We had ZERO chance at responding with a touchdown. Since I have battered-wife syndrome like so many others, I made the assumption that the game was over. It was flat-out shocking to see us roll right down the field and respond like a real offense. Darn near brought a tear to my eye.

That tends to happen to me as well when I read your posts lauding all the new and wonderful football "safety" rules.

Here is my take:

  • The team keeps fighting even when down
  • We are scoring again
  • Special Teams are Special Again
  • We don't have lineman with their hand on their hips in the 4 qtr
  • TE are actually “Catching Passes”
  • Win or lose we face the music...The Band
  • After 9 years, they are fun to watch

Really impressive stat, especially considering 8 of the 20 were garbage time against ut.

One sign of a great team is the ability and desire to close games out.

... and then a pick 6 to seal it by the D
