This comes about partially because I often wonder about the future of message boards. About five years ago, message boards were declared dead in favor of social media sites - the message board system was ancient technology that would soon go out like powdered wigs did. And to some extent, that's certainly true. It boggles my mind how many people want to gather into one little crowded Facebook page and try to actually have a discussion - it's impossible. Not only that, finding old data will simply never happen, when a searchable history is big part of what gives message boards their charm.

Personally, and I'm obviously biased, I think message boards are not only here to stay, they will continue to rebound and grow as people get weary of social media sites and come back to the system that is the easiest to read, follow, and search.

The onion in the ointment is that the newest generation has no experience with old-school message boards like this one, and instead have dealt with nothing but Facebook/Twitter/Reddit crap. In other words, message boards could potentially die out simply because the latest generations never give them a chance.

So I wondered if there were any younger people on this site. While the poll is going pretty much as expected, there's a bit more of a younger crowd than I anticipated, and that gives me a little hope for the future. What will the GCMB be like in 5 years? 10? 20? Impossible to know if it will be huge or even be here at all.

My phone story: Early nineties i still had the rotary dial phone that I had all through college. The type with the dial in the actual handset. Even then these were now "old." Friend and I moved into an apartment. This was in Largo/Clearwater, and he worked for AT&T Paradyne. Phone is hanging on the wall with that direct attachment (shoot, remember those!).

He goes to make a call. Picks up the handset, poised over it with his finger to "dial", and stops. Stares at it a moment. Looks up at me, then back at handset, then back at me. (I should mention that he had that smart-alecky/droll sense of humor - would fit well here.) He says "What the hell is this? Hello? Hello? Mabel? Mabel!!", all while tapping up and down on the cradle. Funny memory, just because of how he did it.

Anyway, time for my bed milk.

I think this board will pass the test of time. If you want to follow gator Sports particularly football this is where you want to be. Lots of good info. Some really good at assessing talent, some real good at x’s and o’s, some real recruiting guru’s and a bunch of insanely comical folks.

I’ve said many times that I was just locked into reading and responding without paying attention to who was the poster. The only ones I “knew” were the more obvious ones like Donk, JBoss and StephenPE. I couldn’t have told you who were the dumpers or pumpers for the most part. Then I started to try to pay more attention. Makes it more interesting this way.

For some reason last night I went back to 2014 threads and read a bunch of them. Interesting to see many familiar names but more interesting to see how many frequent posters who must have gone away.....or did they reinvent themselves with new screen names?

Those fvkkers are older, no doubt. All 0-10-1 types who are just glad if we go 6-6.
Now Law, some of us were Gators before 0-10-1. I remember the Year of the Gator (1968) when Playboy proclaimed the University of Florida #1 in SEX and the pre-season pollsters proclaimed us #1 in SEC. Turns out both were massive exaggerations. Then there was the Cliff-Hare Stadium curse. And the never have won the SEC curse. And the "wait until next year" chant; every year. Its been better and different since Steve came home but my love and support for my University doesn't depend on wins and losses on the gridiron. In all kinds of weather means something to us more experienced Gators. And OBTW; beat Georgia like an old dirty rug.

Did the Brisco Brothers take on the Masked Assassin's? I used to watch that sh*t every Saturday morning! And I couldn't stand the Masked Assassin's! (Assassin I, Assassin II, etc). Gordon Solie was the best!

I'm so old when I first started going to games you pi$$ed in a long porcelain trough and it all ran to one end.
10 to 20 men at a time and kind of strange for a young boy. Does anyone remember those things.

Who the hell are you talking about? You bring this up all the time as if there is a contingent of posters that fit the description. Hell, I don't even think coach would be happy with 6-6.

I’m sure I’m one of the 0-10-1 types he talking about, but it doesn’t mean I’d be happy with 6-6. Of course, donkey never let facts get in the way of his arguments.

They had them in Legion Field at the first SEC Championship game. Nasty damn place.
