I pay so little attention to uni's. I couldn't tell you what we wore last week, last year or last century. I just want uniforms to be....uniform. When I'm changing channels I want to be able to recognize a team by their uni and not have to guess. Do we still do the script Gator on the helmet? I couldn't f'n tell you.

Yes brother,

Or sometimes an F on a white helmet

What I care about is the score and quality of play.

I like all except '61. We aren't Bama, keep the numbers off the helmets. '72, '73, '68 in order from favorite.

Except no white helmets. Ever.

I don’t like the script on the white helmets. But the throwback F or interlocking UF aren’t bad. It’s really all perception, imo. If we crush Alabama in 2009 and win a third title in 4 years with those alternates, I doubt we’d hate them as much as we do. If I hadn’t seen us routinely embarrass ourselves against Memphis and Ole Miss types in the orange jerseys, or watched us win SEC titles in the 90s blues, I may see things differently.

Those 2005 uga game alternates looked like they’d been designed by a dyslexic baboon. But every time I see them, I immediately relive those two incredible Leak TD’s and the defensive stop to win it, which makes me smile.

What years did they have the rebel flags on the helmets? Could you imagine that **** storm today.

No years.

It was for a single game.

1962 Gator Bowl Game against Penn State (our fourth bowl game ever).

They were big favorites. We weren't supposed to be there.

62 days to Florida Gator football: 1962 Gator Bowl
The 1962 Florida Gators stunned the football world by upsetting the heavily favored Penn State Nittany Lions in the Gator Bowl. At the end of the regular season, the Gators were not expected to play in a bowl game. They posted a 6-4 regular season record with losses to #8 Georgia Tech (SEC), Duke, #6 LSU (SEC), and rival Miami. The Gators were ranked 5th in the SEC, but they earned a spot in the Gator Bowl against #9 Penn State after Georgia Tech and Duke both declined invitations. Penn State was coming off a nine-win season and a Lambert Trophy as the best team in the East. Penn State coach Rip Engle did not think another SEC team, especially a four-loss SEC team, was a worthy opponent, nor did he think his team should have been relegated to the Gator Bowl instead of the Cotton Bowl.

Ray Graves and new defensive coordinator Gene Ellenson played upon Penn State’s arrogance by placing Confederate battle flags upon the players’ helmets. The Gators had their work cut out for them against a much larger, stronger, and talented Penn State team. Penn State boasted the sixth-best offense in the nation, averaged over 336 yards of offense per game, had a crafty dual-threat QB in Pete Liske, had an All American tailback in Roger Kochman, and were heavily favored by 9 points. The Gators did not have any marquee players, and had not played a vertical, passing offense all season. Gene Ellenson had the defense shift from a nine-man front (the predominant defense of the time against the run-heavy SEC) to a more pass-oriented eight-man front with a roving linebacker in a formation dubbed “the Monster”. The Monster held Penn State’s offense to only 139 yards, compared to Florida’s 248. The Gators handed Penn State their first bowl game loss since 1928 in a 17-7 upset.

Gator Bowl Memories: Gators Upset Heavily-Favored Penn State to Claim 1962 Gator Bowl - Florida Gators
Florida was given no shot against Penn State, with newspapers up and down the coast pointing to the Gators' 6-4 record and the fact UF was the Gator Bowl's third choice after Georgia Tech and Duke declined invitations.

Penn State, meanwhile, was 9-1 and had been awarded the Lambert Trophy, which annually annually the top program in the East.

Nittany Lions coach Charles “Rip” Engle stumped -- quite publicly -- that his team deserved to play in a major bowl, such as the Cotton, and against a more worthy opponent. Plus, Penn State had been to the Gator Bowl in '61 and soundly defeated Georgia Tech.

The idea of returning to Jacksonville to trounce another SEC team did not excite the Nittany Lions.

Blue helmet, blue top, blue pants, orange shoes. I don't care if it's new or throwback, just give it to me.
