If the coaches have done thier DD and they like the kid, ill take it. Polite was a 3 star so it has happened where the star doesnt matter

I think that's a naive way to look at it - we've heard "trust the coaches" way too many times, but if he's been vetted....and we miss on the top end SEC types, sure let's take a the kid who just got his 3rd star. On a positive note: his video is much better at DE than at LB, he looks like he plays with effort, and could be a contributor by his 3rd year on campus. I don't like it...but it's where we are w/ the 2019 class. The way I look at it is, at least they've scouted some Plan B's. The last staff would just say, "f*ck it, let's just not sign anybody in that position". And make no mistake, Polite wasn't a Plan B for the last staff. He was the best they could do, so they signed him (and tried to make him a DT in a failing effort). Fortunately, he turned out to be a good player. But we can go down the roster and find plenty of failures (let's start w/ McWilliams, Stiner, Andrew Mike, Rayshad Jackson, and plenty more).

But I don't understand why we recruit these short guys for DE. Polite 6'2, 240, CeCe Jefferson 6'1, 250. Can we get some taller guys?

Not really following you. Mullen's staff didn't recruit either of those guys.

Polite was a huge target of virtually all major programs. Was a battle between us and Miami.

It was actually USC who was our biggest competition for him in the end. If I remember correctly.

Yeah, Polite was not a kid we stole from FIU. Neither was Jawaan Taylor the tackle. David Reese also. Real teams wanted those guys. Teams had an idea that they were likely undervalued.

There are such things as high 3 stars and low 3 stars. I don't want to see us running to FAU and FIU again 3 days before signing day, or taking the kids with the arrests, injuries, or grade problems on whom everyone else decided not to gamble.

I am talking about our past recruiting.

Well, CeCe was a 5-star so I don't think it would have mattered if he was only 5'3. I think the problem is he should have been an OLB and not a DE.

I think 6'2 is plenty tall enough for a DE. Sure let's get all 6'5 guys (but there are plenty of 6'5 busts). Monday is 6'4, 6'5 - and he can play TE if needed. I think he's a good Plan B, and like I said previously, at least they have a Plan B lined up (vs missing on the position).

You really think taller is the problem?

Maybe, but he was recruited as a DE, played as a DT and should have really been an OLB in a 3-4.
