No, no.... I just mean that some people are excited about a bottom half offense.

Largely the same people that mock Larry Fedoras top 20 offense at UF.
The 2004 offense was ranked 23rd in the country with 426.9 yards per game. This year's offense is currently 70th with 400.6 per game. In today's CFB landscape, 426.9 would have us at 51st in the country. And don't make fun of people for not liking Larry Fedora's offense when you constantly b*tch and moan about Mullen's offenses in 2007 (14th nationally) and 2008 (15th nationally) that scorched teams on a regular basis.

Have you actually watched this team the last 6 years? Everyone should be excited about jumping 40 spots in Mullen's first year. Even you, if you weren't such an asshat.

He is growing on me, though I will never prefer the option and sideways pass offense.

I certainly like being able to watch a postgame interview and not be thoroughly embarassed bc our coach sounds like a total fvkking moron like the last two.

Sideways and quick hitters are all the time Tua would have behind our OL. No time for downfield to develop. We shall see.

That's partially true, but mostly an excuse. There's been plenty of time that Franks simply missed (because his accuracy is....bad - and that's putting it mildly). I think an accurate QB would have this offense averaging 30+ more yards per game.

The best thing I've seen from Franks the last 3 games is his running in the SC game. He actually looked like a "dual threat" QB (and he gave 100% effort). He only had 36 yards, but had two big losses on a bad handoff and a sack (?). Other than that, he rushed for over 50 yards on actual running plays. If he can improve on that....and starting hitting 1 out of 3 "downfield" passes I'd be happy (until a better option emerges).

Protection has been pretty solid the last 3 or 4 games so hopefully Franks can find some comfort and focus more on the throw itself when going deep. IMO he hasn't done terrible in mid range yardage passing this season. Yes he does miss occasionally and look bad when doing so(UGA INT.) but he has also made a number of pretty decent passes in the 8-20 yard range....more so than we ever saw Driskel or Treon make anyway.

I never could have imagined myself saying this before the season started but if he makes steady improvements in both passing and running I really don't have a problem with him competing with whoever for the job next year....I still can't believe I said that.

I'm wondering is the protection solid because he is getting rid of the ball quick on short passes? The OL doesn't have to hold the blocks as long. The sideways stuff via 3 guys in a bunch pattern also slows down blitzing.

Our OL has improved dramatically possibly coincident with onset of the over-reliance on the short stuff.

He's had decent time or at least it seems that way throwing mid range and further since the UGA game. Earlier in the season we seemed to struggle with protection and he was a bit skittish in the pocket which forced him to move and he doesn't have great accuracy when flushed or moving to his left where he's a complete disaster....

With the relative weakness of the last two defenses we will face, I can easily see finishing with 35+ PPG and 415 YPG. Considering the ongoing struggles at QB, and the significant improvements on the OL and at RB, I'll take it and be happy. The RPO will never produce the down-field aerial circus so many still long for. As long as it continues to produce the same rate of progress we have already seen, I don't really care. Just win baby.

Why would anybody have an issue with him competing, now getting an advantage just due to his experience that does not translate to better play would be an issue for me.

Ask 3/4 of the board who are assured that EJ is the 2nd coming of Aaron Rodgers…. and should have been anointed the starter 3 month's ago.....
Mehhhh... Im sure he will be a dynamite runner. I dont know anyone who thinks he is going to be a great passer.

He might be but isn't he also only a buck ninety five?....I'm certainly not going to say Franks is the better option next year but I'm tired of looking forward to guys who just aren't what we expect…..and as sad as it is to say at least Franks looks as good or better at this point than Driskel, Murphy, Treon or LDR.....

I personally have serious doubts that EJ is going to be anything special. It's the other Jones who I think may be the next great UF qb

Does anyone know what Franks 3rd down passing percentage is? It seems like he has at least completed 3 or 4 conversions of 3rd and 5 or more for each game this season except possibly UK..….I know, I know, that's nothing spectacular but we've had others over the last 5 or 6 years that made me feel we should just punt on 3rd and over 5....

This link doesn't distinguish between rushing or passing conversions, but we're markedly improved overall from a year ago. Interestingly enough, we're better on the road than at home.

He’ll, we’ve had a few where I felt we should punt on first down.
