‘Smooth’ Florida tight end DeAndre Goolsby getting NFL notice

As fans’ eyes focus on wide receiver Antonio Callaway, NFL scouts also will be watching another Florida pass catcher in 2017.

NFL.com draft analyst Lance Zierlein named Gators senior DeAndre Goolsby as one of his tight ends to watch for the coming season. The list doesn’t necessarily attempt to rank the best athletes at a position, but notes players who are getting the attention of personnel evaluators around the NFL.

Zierlein described Goolsby (6 feet 4, 244 pounds) as a “very natural athlete with easy, smooth movement skills.” He has work to do as a blocker, but his receiving skills stand out during this pass-happy phase of football.

“He might lack the aggressiveness and size to be considered as an in-line blocker, but that’s not what is going to get him drafted anyway,” Zierlein wrote.

Goolsby arrived at Florida as a three-star recruit from Derby (Kan.) High, in the Wichita suburbs.

During his junior season, Goolsby caught 38 passes for 342 yards as the team shuffled through quarterbacks Luke Del Rio and Austin Appleby. He’s likely to have a significant role in the offense this year as well, whether it’s Notre Dame graduate transfer Malik Zaire or redshirt freshman Feleipe Franks throwing the passes.

He has the same chance at getting drafted as I do.

This pimpage of Goolsby must be related to signing his brother. Nothing else makes sense. I don't know if he's good or bad, not with this offense. I know he can't block. I dunno what's going on.

Maurice isn't his brother and we haven't signed him, he's a 2019 commit.

0-2.

I actually like Goolsby. I was hoping we would have seen more out of him last season. I think he's got a lot of upside.

But with the hired help tossing the football around last year no one really had a chance to shine.

I think Goolsby does a great job of running to the flats and catching 5 yard dump passes. So far he hasn't done much else.

Goolsby has good hands and he breaks tackles really well sometimes. The play calling had been **** and the QB play has been really bad. It's hard for any pass catchers in this offense to show what they got. If he doesn't get drafted it's on the coaches. Because he's a good enough pass catcher to play in the league.

He's projected between the 2nd-4th rounds. Tom Coughlin was speaking about tight ends around draft time. He wants a guy that can catch and block but said the league is 90% specialist. A tight end can either catch or block but rarely does both. Goolsby has real potential as a flex tight end that is going to waste with this coaching staff. Look at Jordan Reed. As a gator he was famous for his whiff blocks. He's still awful in that area. However, he is one of the best flex tight ends in the league. Goolsby will be drafted unless injury or character issues come up. That is a fact.

Who the hell has him projected at this point at rounds 2-4? Link? Comparing him to Jordan Reed is laughable - Reed has ten times the talent.

He'll probably be given a shot as an undrafted free agent.

WalterFootball (can be awful I know), Matt Miller, and a couple of CBS draft guys have him around that area. The NFL, according to them, likes his potential. At the moment, it is entirely potential. That projection will change to late round or undrafted if he doesn't improve. I'd be stunned if he didn't get drafted. However, I think it will be around 5-6th rounds.

I know McDonalds is after him hard. They'll probably end up winning out in the long run.

It's been pointed out here repeatedly that chump was an amazing recruiter. Goolsby is a lock on Day 1. Book it!
