There's an old joke about a company CEO who was universally despised. When he has a heart attack and dies, his receptionist had to inform callers requesting to speak with him that he had died. These calls gradually trailed off to just one per day, but the receptionist noticed that it sounded like the same person each time. One day she confronted him: "you are calling every day for Mr. so-n-so, and I tell you every day that he is dead. Why do you keep calling?"
His response: "I just like hearing it!"

Although there really is no new news in this thread, I like clicking on it multiple times a day...:swampqueen::stars::sohappy:

Anybody with a pulse, much less a top echelon football coach, can take one look at this team and what it has done over the last 2.5 years and understand instantly why Butters was fired. If somebody is afraid to come coach here because he can't handle the heat then he is doing us a favor in advance by pussing out.

I honestly thought there was no way he’d be fired this year.

Glad I was wrong! Go Gators!

I think every hire is risky. There is no guaranteed success head coach. Just like recruits, some 5* are busts and some 3* turn out great. Obviously, we increase the odds of success with a 5* hire. Whoever is hired, I will get behind the new coach, support him to the fullest (unless/until there are red flags indicating problems), and be happy. Go Gators!!! sohappy.gif

We joke about it, but message boards -- and especially THIS message board -- now have to be considered part of the process.

I almost can't believe I just wrote that, but it's true.

Guys, I still feel like I need to be pinched. It feels damn near surreal that we got rid of Butters as swiftly as we did. I had accepted the grim reality we'd be stuck with him and his teeth until Nov 2018. Is anyone else still on cloud 9?

I get WEEKS to celebrate this.

    Maybe months.

    Maybe even years.

I don’t and I don’t feel that way about just Mac but rather all of them. Any coach that gets a HC job at a place like UF and then scores a contract extension is set for life. These guys are walking away with $10m or more buyouts plus they’ve been making $3-$5m per year for the 3 or 4 years they were employed here. That doesn’t even take in to account the $750k+ per year they made as a coordinator and/or HC at their prior stops. Trust me, these guys won’t have to stress about making the mortgage payment, the COBRA payments for healthcare, groceries, etc. Their kids will still get mountains of gifts come Christmas time. You want to feel bad for somebody...feel bad for the guy making $75k per year who loses his job through no fault of his own when his employer goes belly up and he has a wife and kids to support.

I'm not sure which thread is the best to say this, but I simply had a great weekend this weekend. It wasn't a perfect weekend, but it was very enjoyable. And really the best part about it, besides the quality family time with my wife and son, is that I knew all day Saturday that Mac would be fired, and then he was the next day. Gator nation can breath a sigh of relief and celebrate. The loser is gone 13 months earlier than expected, and it appears that we finally have an AD that isn't going to continue to destroy Gator football. I hate UGA, but somehow I'm not even bothered by the loss because I know that things are finally going to get better for this program. Go Gators.
