QB Michael Johnson Talks Gators
QB Michael Johnson JR One to Watch in 2019

https://florida.247sports.com/Bolt/Signal-Caller-with-Plenty-of-Options-115354023

Three-star quarterback Michael Johnson JR. checks in from Eugene (OR) Sheldon. The 6-foot-4, 190-pound signal caller holds offers from LSU, Ohio State, Oregon and Florida to name a few.

Quarterback Michael Johnson JR holds over two-dozen offers from some of the biggest programs in the country including Florida, LSU, Ohio State and the Miami Hurricanes. Johnson knows of only one official visit, that being the Hurricanes.

“Most important factors are an offense that fits me with a good situation,” Michael Johnson JR said. “A place that I have a good relationship with the staff.”

Where do the Gators sit for Johnson?

“I like Coach Mullen and his staff,” Johnson said. “I feel comfortable with them. I could see myself taking a visit there.”

Hopefully we'll get some recruiting news out of Saturday's event:

Recruiting roundup
  • Robinson also talked Tuesday about what it’s like recruiting for the Gators and how he’ll feel competing against former coach Mark Richt for in-state prospects. Read more here.
  • Ge’mon Eaford, a 4-star linebacker from Deerfield Beach, Fla., is one of the most coveted players in the Class of 2019. He said he’s impressed with Mullen so far. “Coach Dan Mullen, I love him. He was there when they were in their prime with Tim Tebow and Percy Harvin, so he’s a great coach. I will be visiting up there during the springtime,” Eaford said. Read more here.
  • Major Williams, a 3-star “athlete” from Fort Myers, Fla., announced he’ll be at Florida’s junior day on Saturday.

Five-Star Will Official with Gators
Five-Star Knows Three OV's He will Make

https://florida.247sports.com/Bolt/Quick-Hitter-with-the-No-1-Player-in-California-115387353

One of the top five players in America regardless of position is defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux. The Five-Star, 6-foot-5, 235-pound end checks in from Thousand Oaks (CA) Oaks Christian and says he knows of three official visits he will make during the recruiting cycle.

Kayvon Thibodeaux holds offers from every top program in the country, including USC, LSU, Alabama, Florida and Florida State to name a few. While he is nowhere near making a decision, he does know a few factors he will use to help make his decision when the time comes.

“Opportunity to play, weather and the stability of the coaching staff,” Kayvon Thibodeaux said.

The No 1 ranked player in the state of California is keeping his eye on the Florida Gators.

“Florida is nice,” Thibodeaux said. “They should have a good season coming up, Coach Mullen is a good man.”

Which three teams did Thibodeaux say would get official visits?

“Florida State, Oregon and Florida,” Thibodeaux said.

Gators offer Top100 WR
Gators the latest to offer Top100 WR

https://florida.247sports.com/Bolt/...-Jackson-offered-by-Florida-Gators--115390692

The Florida Gators continue to shell out numerous new scholarship offers for the class of 2019 this week. On Wednesday the latest name added the board was Sumrall (MS) wide receiver Dannis Jackson.

The four-star pass catcher relayed the news of his latest tender through his Twitter account that afternoon.

The Gators join the likes of Arkansas, Auburn, Louisville, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Tennessee, and others as teams that have offered at this juncture. The 6-foot-1, 160-pounder has taken recent visits to Auburn and LSU and is also high on the in-state Rebels as well. At this time the Rebels hold the edge in the 247Sports Crystal Ball with 67-percent of the predictions. The other 33-percent points to the LSU Tigers.

247Sports currently ranks Jackson as the Nation's No. 79 overall prospect in the 2019 recruiting class.

Florida Gators recruiting notebook for February 20th

https://www.gatorcountry.com/feature/florida-gators-recruiting-notebook-for-february-20th/

New offers

Several offers were extended on Monday and it wasn’t just to one area as guys all across the country picked up offers in the 2019 class.

Defensive end Joseph Wete (6-4, 220, Washington DC. Gonzaga High) was one of the guys offered. Wete has offers from the likes of Georgia, Notre Dame, Oklahoma among others. Penn State is a team that he has visited several times in the past.

JUCO offensive lineman Malaesala Aumavae-Laulu (6-7, 365, Henderson, NV. Navarro JUCO) was offered by John Hevesy on Monday. Aumavae-Laulu has offers from USC and Utah among many others. USC is the team favored early on for the JUCO lineman.

Offensive lineman Donavan Beaver (6-6, 275, Fredericksburg, VA. Massaponax) was also offered by John Hevesy on Monday.

Miami offensive line commit Brandon Cunningham (6-5, 270, Ocean Springs, MS. St. Martin) was actually offered on Sunday night by Hevesy. Cunningham is very familiar with Dan Mullen and his coaching staff and has visited them in the past at Mississippi State.

Running back Marcus Major (6-0, 181, Oklahoma City, OK. Millwood) picked up his 14th offer from division one schools on Monday. Oklahoma is the team to beat early on for Major.

Lineman reoffered by Florida

Mullen has reoffered a lot of players that were offered by the former staff and one of the guys were reoffered on Monday night.

Offensive lineman Keiondre Jones (6-4, 315, Hogansville, GA. Callaway) was offered by John Hevesy and this is an important offer by the Gators. Jones is the younger cousin of freshman quarterback Emory Jones who the Gators signed this year. The two cousins are close and this offer gets the Gators squarely in the mix for the 2019 offensive lineman.

Breaking down the 2019 defensive targets: Florida Gators recruiting

http://www.gatorcountry.com/feature...-defensive-targets-florida-gators-recruiting/

Defensive ends

The coaching staff is likely to take three defensive ends in this class and they have several solid options in the 2019 class. Here are some top targets.

Khris Bogle (6-4, 207, Fort Lauderdale, FL. Cardinal Gibbons) has been a high priority for Florida since the previous staff. Bogle looks to be a battle between the three instate teams and Clemson who has been after him hard as of late.

Curtis Fann (6-3, 245, Twin City, GA. Emanuel County Institute) was offered by Florida in December. Georgia is trying to keep him instate and South Carolina is also heavily involved.

Lloyd Summerall (6-5, 218, Auberdale, FL. High) has picked up big offer after big offer this year so far and that includes one from Florida. Florida State is the team that has the momentum early on.

Nathan Pickering (6-5, 270, Seminary, MS. High) has a relationship with Dan Mullen dating back to his days at Mississippi State. Pickering likes Florida and Alabama a lot but LSU and the two instate teams are also heavily in the mix. Getting Pickering on campus this spring is a must.

Derick Hunter (6-4, 281, Fort Myers, FL. Dunbar) has a list of offers from just about everyone in the southeast and that includes the Gators. Florida is a team that Hunter admits to always liking but the local Miami Hurricanes are a team to watch as well. Hunter plans to visit Florida this spring.

Defensive tackle

Florida will likely look to take two-three defensive tackles in this class after not landing one in 2018.

Jaquaze Sorrells (6-3, 270, Largo, FL. High) was once committed to Florida but Sorrells is still very interested in the Gators. Clemson is a team to watch for him but look for him to visit Gainesville this spring.

Tyler Davis (6-2, 261, Apopka, FL. Wekiva) is one of the best players at his position and he visited Florida earlier this year. Miami and Florida are the teams to watch early on with Ohio State also in the picture.

Linebackers

Linebacker will once again be a top priority for the Gators this cycle as they look to add depth to the position.

Nakobe Dean (6-0, 215, Horn Lake, MS. High) was a top target for Mullen at Mississippi State and he has a good relationship with Todd Grantham. The instate teams will be tough to beat but the Gators are trying to get him on campus.

Jammal Abrams (6-3, 224, Birmingham, AL. Jackson-Olin) plans to visit Florida this weekend for junior day. Auburn signed his teammate Coynis Miller so they will be a team to watch but the early visit to Gainesville shows the interest is real from Abrams.

Jaleel McRae (6-1, 230, Bradenton, FL. IMG) can be put in the defensive back or linebacker category but I’m going to put him as a linebacker right now. McRae still has a lot of interest in the Gators and Florida is the team to beat early but McRae needs to recover from his knee injuries right now.

Ge’mon Eaford (6-1, 220, Deerfield Beach, FL. High) has been a priority for Dan Mullen since he arrived in Gainesville. Eaford also likes Auburn a lot but the distance from home is something the Gators are hoping wins out.

Marcus Tillman (6-2, 220, Orlando, FL. Jones) another former Florida commit who still has interest in the Gators. Tillman has been talking to the staff a lot and Florida is a team to watch as the linebacker wants to visit Gainesville this spring.

Defensive backs

The state of Florida is once again loaded at the position which should help the Gators as they would like to sign 3-4 in the 2019 class.

Akeem Dent (6-0, 170, West Palm Beach, FL. Palm Beach Central) is committed to Florida State after decommitting from Miami earlier in 2017. Dent is still talking to Florida and remains interested in visiting the Gators. His recruitment will be one to follow.

Kaiir Elam (6-0, 177, North Palm Beach, FL. The Benjamin School) is the nephew of former Gators safety Matt Elam and the younger Elam is very interested in the Gators. Elam has visited Florida several times in the past and the Gators are a school to watch for him.

Jaden Davis (5-10, 165, Fort Lauderdale, FL. St. Thomas Aquinas) has visited Florida a lot in the past and plans to be in Gainesville this weekend for junior day. Florida and Miami are two teams that Davis talks about a lot in his recruitment.

Renardo Green (6-0, 170, Apopka, FL. Wekiva) visited the Gators in January and liked the visit and likes area recruiter Ron English a lot. Watch for Green to visit Florida more this spring.

Brendan Gant (6-2, 185, Lakeland, FL. Kathleen) is committed to Alabama but is very good friends with current linebacker Ventrell Miller. Gant still plans to visit Florida and the Gators will be a school to watch for him in his recruitment.

Trent Whittemore (6-3, 190, Gainesville, FL. Buchholz) is a Gators commit and someone that will likely stick with Florida. Mullen visited his school during the recruiting period in January.

Tyrique Stevenson (6-2, 195, Homestead, FL. South Dade) is another once Gators commit who is still interested in Florida. Miami and Clemson are also hot on the pursuit of Stevenson .

Florida recruiting: Which de-commits could rejoin the Gators’ 2019 class?

https://www.seccountry.com/florida/florida-recruiting-de-commits-rejoin-class

In each of the last three recruiting cycles, a prospect has de-committed from Florida and later rejoined the class.

Defensive back Chauncey Gardner made the move in 2016, running back Adarius Lemons followed suit in 2017 and wide receiver Jacob Copeland decided to go back with the Gators earlier this month on National Signing Day.

The 2019 class could extend this trend to a fourth straight year.

Nine 2019 recruits have de-committed since the coaching changes, but Florida is in play for a handful of those players. The most notable name is Orlando, Fla., safety Marcus Tillman Jr., who backed off his pledge to the Gators on Jan. 17.

One week later, however, he was re-offered by new coach Dan Mullen and took an unofficial visit to Florida on Feb. 3. Tillman will be back in town this weekend for junior day and the Gators are in great shape for his services.

Former wide receiver commit John Dunmore (Hollywood, Fla.) is also scheduled to Florida on Saturday. He and fellow 4-star WR Frank Ladson (Homestead, Fla.) are still high on the Gators and could jump back on board.

Jaleel McRae was the first recruit to de-commit after Jim McElwain’s departure, but the 4-star linebacker from IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) loved the hiring of Mullen. He continues to list Florida as one of his top schools and will return to campus this spring.

Top-100 defensive tackle Jaquaze Sorrells and 4-star defensive back Tyrique Stevensonare also giving the Gators strong consideration and have been in communication with the new coaches. Both prospects plan to visit Gainesville in the near future.

Gators extend yet another QB offer
Gators offer 2019 QB

https://florida.247sports.com/Bolt/...arrett-Shrader-lands-offer-from-UF--115400931

The Florida Gators coaching staff has been busy adding several names to their quarterback recruiting board over the last several days. On Wednesday evening yet another name added to the fold was Charlotte (NC) Charlotte Christian quarterback Garrett Shrader.

The three-star signal caller shared the new of his latest offer through his Twitter account.

The Gators join the likes of Alabama, Arkansas, Louisville, Nebraska, South Carolina, Penn State, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and several others. At this time he claims no leaders as he continues to take visits over the spring months. So far this year the 6-foot-4 1/2, 200-pounder has visited Mississippi State, Ole Miss and South Carolina. He also plans to see the Gamecocks again this coming weekend and West Virginia next month.

At this time it's Mississippi State holding the edge in the 247Sports Crystal Ball.

The 247Sports Composite, an industry generated average, currently ranks Shrader as the Nation's No. 12 dual-threat quarterback in the 2019 recruiting class.

2019 4 star DB Chris Steele, #3 CB will be taking an official visit to Florida on 9/8/18.

https://www.seccountry.com/recruiting/player/chris-steele/

Recruiting roundup
  • SEC Country’s Zach Abolverdi considers which Class of 2019 de-commits could end up rejoining the Gators’ class by next National Signing Day.
  • Abolverdi also has an interesting story about how Warren surprised 4-star DB recruit Trey Dean on his official visit after being hired by the Gators. Warren had been recruiting Dean to Tennessee, but he helped convince him to sign with the Gators in the end. “Coach Warren recruited me to Tennessee. He came to Florida and told me I was their No. 1 guy they’re going to recruit at corner. He likes me very much and recruits me very hard,” Elam said. Read more here.
  • Florida doled out scholarship offers to two Class of 2019 quarterbacks this week, offering 4-star Taisun Phommachanh from Bridgeport, Conn., and 3-star prospect Jacob Zeno from San Antonio.
  • Speaking of that connection, Warren was also recruiting 4-star Class of 2019 cornerback Kaiir Elam at Tennessee. Now, he’ll try to land him in Gainesville as well.
  • Scout.com’s Jason Higdon caught up with Class of 2019 QB prospect Jalon Jones, who said “The one program I know I’m 100 percent taking an official visit to is Florida. I have a great respect and love for Coach Mullen.” Jones is a 3-star prospect ranked the No. 9 dual-threat QB in this next recruiting cycle, according to the 247Sports composite. See the rest of Jones’ comments here.

Q&A from Will Miles:

https://www.readandreaction.com/201...thing-mullen-consider-2018-successful-season/

What’s the most important position for recruiting in 2019? @Matt_Peters86

Defensive line, and it’s not even close. The average star ranking for the top-5 defenses in the FBS in 2017 was 4.1 for defensive linemen, 3.4 for linebackers and 3.5 for defensive backs. Florida’s starting defensive line had an average national recruiting ranking of 130 (4.1 star average) in 2015, 348 (3.3 star average) in 2016 and 450 (3.3 star average) in 2017.

Mullen only brought in one true defensive lineman (Malik Langham) and hybrid rush end/outside linebacker (Andrew Chatfield) in his 2018 class, both rated 4-star players. This is an improvement on Jim McElwain’s recruiting, as McElwain averaged 1.3 top-300 ranked defensive linemen per recruiting cycle from 2015-2017.

But compare that to Florida State’s average of 3.0 top-300 defensive linemen during the same cycles (and another 3 in 2018) and it’s clear that Florida is falling behind at a spot where talent is necessary to field a top defense.

Defensive end CeCe Jefferson will graduate after the 2018 season, leaving sophomores Langham and Chatfield, senior defensive end Antonneous Clayton, redshirt sophomore defensive end Zachary Carter and junior defensive tackle Tedarrell Slayton as the only top-300 players on the 2019 defensive line.

A talent influx at defensive end and defensive tackle is absolutely critical for Florida’s defense to return among the elite.

What are your personal expectations for the 2019 recruiting class? @rickybow001

So although I know the crystal ball predictions this early mean very little, I looked at the top 42 players and only one has Florida as an option and that was WR Jordan Whittington. This has got to change in order to try and close the gap. Do you think it will and when? @jeastburn2

This question was asked in a variety of ways by a bunch of different people. Quite simply, my expectations are for Florida to have a minimum of the third rated national class and 14-16 blue chip players.

2018-02-18-Second-year-recruiting-classes-at-Florida.jpg

Second year recruiting classes for the last four Florida head coaches. (Will Miles/Read and Reaction)

As the above chart shows, Zook, Meyer and Muschamp brought in elite talent in their second year. It shouldn’t be a surprise that Zook is credited for stocking the cupboard for Meyer and Meyer is the gold standard when it comes to Gators recruiting.

Muschamp’s classes were rated highly, but when you look at top-end talent, there was definitely less of it during his tenure and then the talent fell off a cliff with the McElwain regime.

Mullen’s first recruiting class matched what Zook, Meyer and Muschamp were able to do during their transition classes. But he’s going to have to match Zook or Meyer for Florida fans – and this writer – to give him any kudos in year two.

He missed on Silvera and Petit-Frere in year one. He’s not allowed to miss next season.

If you look at a lot of our big classes, we lost a significant number of players to transfer or other indiscretions. What is the possibility that this happens to Georgia’s class? @damulinksys

I’m sure some of Georgia’s highly touted recruits will wash out or transfer. Florida fans could point to 5-star recruits Gary Brown (2009) or Torrey Davis (2007) as examples.

But history says Florida fans shouldn’t count on it. From 2002-2018, Florida has signed 38 5-star players according to the 247Sports composite rankings. Of those, 27 (71%) have been drafted into the NFL and 11 (29%) have been drafted in the first round.

Georgia has signed 15 5-star recruits from 2015-2018. That means we can expect between 10 and 11 of those players to be drafted and between 4 and 5 of those players to be first round draft picks. Seven of those 5-stars were signed in the 2018 cycle, meaning that these players are going to be around for a while.

I’ve written previously about blue chip recruits and the probability that they become stars. The conclusion is that it’s far more likely that stars come from 4 and 5-star recruits, and unfortunately for Florida, Georgia leads 15-2 for 5-star recruits and 70-37 for total blue chip recruits since 2015.

The way Florida is going to compete with Georgia is to pick it up in recruiting, not hoping that Georgia’s recruits don’t pan out.

Which 2019 prospect could end Florida’s recruiting drought at IMG Academy?

https://www.seccountry.com/florida/florida-recruiting-img-academy-dan-mullen

Another recruiting class has passed and Florida still hasn’t signed a player from IMG Academy, a private boarding school and training facility in Bradenton, Fla.

IMG Academy fielded its first football team in 2013, and every year top recruits from around the country transfer to the school. However, the Gators have been unable to tap into that talent for five straight years.

Florida has landed a few verbal commitments from IMG Academy — defensive tackle Shavar Manuel and safety Spencer Perry in 2016, offensive lineman Curtis Dunlap in 2018 — but no signees so far.

Mullen and his staff have offered a dozen players from IMG Academy for the Class of 2019: 4-star quarterback David Baldwin, 5-star running backs Noah Cain and Trey Sanders, 4-star wide receiver Cameron Coleman, 4-star guards Deyavie Hammond, Evan Neal and Dontae Lucas, 3-star tackles Chris Akporoghene, Charles Turner and Antoine Whitner, 4-star linebacker Jaleel McRae, and 4-star safety Briton Allen.

I think Florida’s chances are best with the players from the Sunshine State: Sanders (Port Saint Joe), Hammond (Lakeland), Lucas (Miami), Neal (Okeechobee), McRae (New Smyrna Beach) and Allen (Orlando). They each list the Gators among their favorite teams and have been in contact with the new staff.

Of those six Sunshine State products, right now I would say Hammond is the most likely recruit to end Florida’s recruiting drought at IMG Academy. The 6-foot-4, 320-pound lineman is ranked the nation’s No. 3 guard and No. 39 overall prospect in the 247Sports composite.

Hammond de-committed from Alabama on Jan. 26 and Florida is considered one of his top schools. Offensive line is a position of need for the Gators in their 2019 class and Hammond would be a huge get for Mullen & Co.

Elam a top priority for UF
In-state defensive back is a top target of the Gators.

https://florida.247sports.com/Article/Kaiir-Elam-is-a-top-priority-for-the-Florida-Gators-115411090

North Palm Beach (Fla.) The Benjamin School four-star cornerback Kaiir Elam has a host of schools chasing his commitment. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound prospect named a few he felt were making him a priority early.

“Auburn, Tennessee, Florida have all sent their head coaches down to say hi to me,” Elam said. “They’re recruiting me real hard. Coach [Duane] Akina at Stanford, Ohio State, Coach [Urban] Meyer, I talk to him all the time on the phone.”

In fact, Elam is a top target of the the in-state Gators.

“Florida, Coach [Charlton] Warren told me I was a priority. I was the No. 1 [defensive back] they’re recruiting, which is pretty cool. He came down to my school.”

Elam’s relationship with Warren is not a new one.

“He recruited me at Tennessee, and I guess when he got to Florida, he recruited me even harder. He said he liked my film and liked my attributes. He told me I was the No. 1 DB he was going to recruit.”

A commitment from Elam anytime soon appears to be unlikely. Elam stated he does not plan to pick a school until after his senior season. Until then, what is he looking for in the program of his choice?

“Somewhere I can definitely go play either on special teams or at corner right away. A place I know I’m getting coached by the best and they’re putting kids in the NFL. Just an atmosphere that feels like home I guess.”

The industry-generated 247Sports Composite currently ranks Elam as the nation’s No. 116 overall prospect in the 2019 class.

Florida is hosting its first junior day under new head coach Dan Mullen on Saturday, and one of the big names expected on campus is Georgia five-star wide receiver commit Jadon Haselwood. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Haselwood is ranked as the nation's No. 1 wide receiver in the 2019 class.

Haselwood committed to the Bulldogs last March, but he has recently taken visits to Auburn and Tennessee. It looks as if the Gators will be his next stop.

The industry-generated 247Sports Composite currently ranks Haselwood as the nation's No. 2 overall prospect in the 2019 class.
