He had legit offers last year. This year he's only got offers from PSU, Temple, James Madison, and Pitt. Why didn't those other teams like UT, Bama, etc reoffer him? Just watch his prep school tape and you'll see why. A good developmental pickup

He's not the 41st ranked DT. If he fell in rankings it's because he didn't play a down this season. He was the 26th according to rivals.

Then I stand corrected....but last I heard 11 is higher ranked than 26th.

Let's not get carried away; Hansard was the 11th ranked DT and this kid is the 41st ranked.

I'm happy to have him...very happy, in fact, but let's not go overboard.

I said our DT class as a whole. If we get Soloman and Truesdale... Is the class better than Hansard, Scott and Edwards?

How come he get no *s on Rivals. He counts as a body but no points.

I'm not 100% sure, but it may be because he went to prep school. Rivals may not consider him under the ranking?

10-12 down linemen a recruiting cycle.

That's not necessarily accurate (but understandable w/ our current situation), unless you're signing 30+ players. Think about it (do the math).

If you sign 3-5 OL's, 2 DT's, and 2 DE's per class you could get away with 7-9 per class. But our problem is this staff (and the previous staff) regularly missed on OL's & DT's, leaving us w/ HUGE holes to fill...so it seems we need 10-12 each class. Signing 12 OL's/DL's would only leave 10-13 other positions to sign.

add injuries in there, 10 to 12 a recruiting cycle is about right. If you are just getting the minimum, are you getting full rotations, and you become thin with injuries or guys who don't work out.

Exactly, if you sign too many at certain positions someone gets lost in the Frosh shuffle. I never like signing 6 OL, because one of them does not get developed. It is not quite as bad with DL, but still signing 3 D-tackles or 3 DEs can leave one not getting developed.

Doug, agreed...in the state we're in. But a competent coaching staff isn't going to have the holes we have. 10-12 OLs/DLs in one class is too many. That leaves 12-14 at other positions; basically your entire roster outside of the LOS. 7 to 9 is plenty each year...IF you have a competent staff, which we don't have.

Weve been tryimg to sign 32+ kids since Mac arrived. 5 OL and 4 DL is always the goal, and one for every other position for a total of 22. We need to add more due to past failures but even w adding depth 10-13 linemen, that still leaves 20-ish for the other positions at least until we get back to full roster numbers /yearly signings and can no longer take more than 25.

So lets say 10-12, of the starting 22 that is roughly 10 players. So it goes with what we would be having in a given start set. Now if you assume a good staff would be able to redshirt your freshmen (which is not where we are). Now you have to eliminate the kids you are going to lose to not being able to play at the college level, practice bodies, kids that aren't going to be handle the weight, injury and leaving early. If you assume they will always be healthy and none will leave early it is too many, but that isn't going to be the case. The jump from HS to NCAA is huge, and that is where the 10-12 comes from.
