This is surprising to me, but Alabama's freshman played more snaps than our freshman did. All that talent at Alabama and their freshman played more than ours. Unbelievable, the rich get richer.

Texas Tech freshmen had most snaps in 2016; 5 SEC schools in top 10

Texas Tech freshmen received the most snaps in 2016, while five SEC programs ranked in the top 10 in that category.

Pro Football Focus’ research showed that Texas Tech freshmen had 4,429 snaps in ’16, far more than second-place Kansas (3,921). SEC programs Ole Miss, Alabama, South Carolina, Florida and Georgia ranked sixth through 10th, respectively, in freshmen snaps.

Alabama had perhaps the nation’s most recognizable freshman in 2016 in quarterback Jalen Hurts. The Crimson Tide also started a true freshman at right tackle in Jonah Williams, and true freshman running back Josh Jacobs rushed for 567 yards and four touchdowns.

Georgia started true freshman Jacob Eason at quarterback and also received key production from freshman tight end Isaac Nauta as well as five freshman defensive linemen.

South Carolina’s leading passer (Jake Bentley) was a true freshmen, as were its top two rushers (Rico Dowdle and A.J. Turner) and its third-leading receiver (Bryan Edwards).

Two of Ole Miss’ top five receivers (Van Jefferson and A.J. Brown) were freshmen, and a multitude of freshmen played a lot on defense, most notably linemen Benito Jones, safeties Myles Hartsfield and Deontay Anderson and cornerbacks Jaylon Jones and Jalen Julius.

True freshman right tackle Jawaan Taylor may have been Florida’s most consistent offensive lineman, and linebacker David Reese, defensive end Jabari Zuniga and safety Chauncey Gardner were freshmen who flashed at various points of the season.

Bama and Dawgs on their way toward QB stability and growth most likely... sure wish one of ours took some meaningful snaps last year...

Aside from the QB, they racked up stats because they were blowing out teams. If you remove the QB numbers and only look at first half snaps, their story is debunked

But the experience is still there. For a team full of 5 stars.

Bamma still lost the NCG. :lmao2:

After the azz raping they delivered to us, not sure how we can laugh at them for losing that game... At least they got to actually play in the game...

Aside from J. Taylor I'm sure our stats drop quite a bit too. The fact is, their freshman played more than ours.

Surprised not to see a mention of Cleveland and Perine in that blurb. Both will be major contributors next year and got plenty of snaps, especially in the second half of the season.

Damn it, there goes the "we're just young" excuse.

That wasn't the excuse. Pretty sure the excuse was WE HAVE NO QB!!!!! Actually, the consensus here was that we needed to get younger, especially at QB.

.....Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand yet, we were young, but still won the (terrible) East over much more veteran-laden teams, which bodes well for next season

playing one of our freshman QBs last season would have been a wise tactical move for this year, just enough helpful- drawn up plays to either wrinkle their skirt if that's the fact or they grew some game. Freshman QBs feeling some of that radar love flying around would have been a good thing for knowing or at least give us some camp expectations... :fistbump:

That's what happens when you go into the 4th quarter vs UMass w/ a 10-7 lead.....and can't beat Vandy by more than 6 points.....and have less than 20 points midway through the 3rd quarter vs. a sh*tty North Texas team.

Our offense is so bad it's hurting the development of our younger players, preventing us from building depth. UMass lost 9 games this year and of the 9 we scored the fewest points vs their Defense. Think about that. They lost to some crap teams w/ a third of the talent we have.

It's a mystery what's going to happen w/ the offense this year. If he trots out Del Rio he might as well back the U-Haul up to his house because he ain't going to get another season. If one of the freshman play and stink it up, same result. This is HIS team now. Muschamp's D is essentially gone. This is all him. We'll see what he's made of.

That true freshman lineman Bama started Jonah Williams was handling the top SEC pass rushers with no help most times. He was a better player than Hurts despite the media love for Hurts. Hurts wouldnt have stats like that on most other teams.
