So UF's nonconference opponents include, team (2017 final Kenpom rating):

    1. Stanford (102) neutral site
    2. Gonzaga (1) or Ohio State (73) neutral site
    3. Butler (25), Duke (14) or UTx (70) neutral site
    4. Cincy (23) neutral site
    5. Clemson (45) neutral site
    6. Baylor (13) home I think
    7. Presumably FSU (26) home I think

Is that too tough? Will UF be able to fashion an NCAA tourney bid record out of this schedule?

That's a tough slate. There's a few gimme's in there right? (like a JU or Mercer?)

Clempson is in there. We have Cincy too? Or did you mean Clempson?

That is a tough non conference schedule. I like it though. Coach White ain't shying away. Play the top competition to get ready for the tournament.

Both, here is an article listing the Cincy game at a neutral site

    http://brockway.blogs.gatorsports.com/13709/florida-face-cincy-nj/

I went back and added in Clemson. That makes it even tougher in my mind. The key is winning enough so that you get that bid or the tourney prep is not so valuable.

We're going to have a pretty veteran team. I'm not too worried about making the tournament to be honest. But I understand what you're saying, we could end up a 6, 7, 8 type seed if we lose a few we're not supposed to (or lost too many close ones).

It's a little more rigorous than last year where we played Duke, Zags, FSU, and Seton Hall. But we also get a few more games at home in the Fall since the O-Dome was under remodel mode last year. Can't find a final schedule yet for 2017-18, but we can assume there will be some easier non-conference (home) games sprinkled in amongst the OOC schedule.

I did find this - it's a table showing UF basketball prospects for 2018, who we've offered, where they're from, etc.
      http://www.gatorcountry.com/basketball_prospects/2018/position/

Interesting to note that while PF Darius Days is considered 100% to the Gators, he's yet to receive an offer, according to the table (three other PFs show offers, including Emmitt Williams, our main PF target). Also, what I thought would be a backup option at PG if we miss on Dotson or Weaver (Williams out of Houston), isn't even on the list.

I usually like to see UF's team get 10 wins out of conference and at least 10 wins in conference to sow up a bid. Last year 13 seems to be the number of out of conference games that you could play with an 18 game conference schedule. So if that is the case again this year, UF only has room for six non-return games. So if UF wins those six, then UF would need to win 4 of the 7 games I listed. I guess that is doable. Then UF needs to get probably a minimum of 12 SEC wins. Again doable.

        1. You left out at OU which looked like a challenge but did not end up being much of one.

        2. That list included a guy who is committed to UL which they probably should include in the table.

        1. I left off Miami, St. Bonnie and FGCU as well and they all played UF tougher than OK - just didn't feel they fit the 'tough' part of the OOC schedule from last year to compare to this year's tougher OOC schedule.
        2. Interesting that Simons (UL commit) is listed as a PG on our list, but as a SG on ULs site. UL has a 5-star PG already committed for 2018.

Quite the offer sheet. Amazing to actually see how many scholarships are offered to get it to 3 or 4.

1 Yeah Miami too, I was clearly looking at power conference opponents including Big East but maybe not A10?

        2. Yeah you can not trust the recruiting sites about who really is a PG and who really is a SG. In general my view is under 6'2" a PG, over 6'2" a SG until proven different. That seemed to work with Hester our "PG" signee last year. Of course there is the problem of hyped up heights.

Marshall coach high on UF F Chase Johnson
Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at 1:27 by Kevin Brockway

Marshall coach Dan D’Antoni did his best to try to keep standout West Virginia forward recruit Chase Johnson within his state’s borders.

Instead, the 6-foot-8, 205-pound Johnson chose to play at Florida, where he will enroll as an incoming freshman later his month.

D’Antoni said Johnson, a Ripley, W. Va., native and three/four-star prospect, has a chance to help the Gators right away.

“He’s a face up guy,” Johnson said. “He’s a slasher. He’s surprisingly athletic. What I like about him and I don’t know if they’ll use them like that, he would have been a great pick and roll guy for us. He’s able to catch the ball in the air, and he’ll do that. He can catch and side-step and finish and that’s what we liked about him.”

Florida coach Mike White employs some pick-and-roll elements in his offense, though not as frequently as his predecessor, Billy Donovan. D’Antoni thought that Johnson could have flourished in his offense at Marshall with returning standout point guard Jon Elmore.

“He’s a tremendous lob guy and pick and roll guy so we thought we had the ingredients to make him better and he’d make us better,” D’Antoni said. “He chose Florida. We wish him well. We hope he does extremely well. He’s a West Virginia kid and we want to support the people from this state. His family is a super family. They’ve got a good kid and I hope it works out for him.”

Johnson is part of a freshman class that includes 6-6 swingman DeAundrae Ballard, 6-3 point guard Michael Okauru and 6-8 forward Isaiah Stokes. All four are expected on campus when the second summer session starts on June 26.

He's "able to catch the ball in the air"?!?!? We definitely need guys who can do that.

Even funnier part of the quote is "he'll do that" part. So if Chase comes here and doesn't catch the ball in the air, this guy has no clue what he's talking about.

I would rather they have done something a bit chronological and let the anticipation to seeing the Chiozza shot build. I also would have liked to see a shot of that score board at then end of the UVa game holding an NCAA tourney power 6 opponent to under 40 points.
