I wish I'd bought about $1000 worth back when it first started up. I'd be very wealthy now. Unfortunately, I believe these crypto currencies will hit a ceiling at some point and then crash and burn so I don't have the confidence to get in now either.

Don't know whether it's a Ponzi scheme, but it sure feels like a bubble.

I have a feeling it will end up like some of that stuff in the late 90s eventually as far as being overvalued. Hard to say how long the madness can go however. I guess it will go on until it doesn't.

It's a bubble, but there's a floor and in 4-5 years, we'll wish we'd bought today. Blockchain and cryptoassets are going to change the world in much the same way tcp/ip did.

Chinese have a stranglehold on that now.. There is absolutely no reason for bacon to cost $5+ per pack with the glut of pork available. But ever since they took control of Smithfield they have really kept the price of bacon sky high

Yeah, they do all kinds of numbers manipulation to the USDA now as well... Like when they had that virus supposedly killing all the piglets, they waay over counted to falsely push the domestic market up.

That's the very definition of a self-created information bubble.

Whew! I almost forgot the lesson from the 2000 tech bubble, and was just about to invest in a company with a dotcom in its name.

    Thanks for the reminder.

On a more serious note, this thread began with someone admitting ignorance, which is exactly what I did a few months back.

I'm not personally yet prepared to go out and buy any bitcoins, but I will be investing in this asset class soon after I do my due diligence.

If anyone really is interested (and if you do any investing, you should be), here's a great book I just picked up.

And no, that's not an affiliate link.

I've had my eye on this since the summertime and I the minimum of $60 which is what it said in an email the other day I am tempted to try the $60 investment but not $500 or more and I'm concerned about other fees and services they're going to charge for
