Hopefully by the end of his tenure we will offer Taggart an honorary spot in our ROH.
That's the thing- recruiting. Kelly has to get out there and recruit. If he fails there he fails completely. It's even more difficult to recruit when you can't win any games. If you have a decent season recruiting is not on total rebuild. It's hard to attract the best when they have options and they see your team and program as a project. Why would they take that option when Oregon or Alabama.... or UF is offering?
Don't feel bad. Most of us thought Frost or Kelly would be good here and why not? I ranked Mullen below Frost, Kelly and even Taggart IF Taggart brought his complete staff. In fairness to myself I knew when his OC then DC did not come that he was going to be in uncharted deep water and I did not realize that he is such a marginal person until I watched his press conferences. It's as if he is a position coach where the HC, OC and DC were let go and he had to take over the program and is very uncomfortable in the spotlight.

Gotta disagree with that. Any coach whose team goes 13-0 is, by definition, a good coach. Maybe not great, but good.

Gotta disagree with that, too. Any coach whose team starts the season 0-5 is, by definition, not a great coach. Maybe good, but not great.

Also gotta disagree with myself circa November of last year, because Chip Kelly was my first choice, Scott Frost was my second, and Mullen was a distant third. So serve me up a plate!

Put me in the camp that Frost is never going to have any success at Nebraska and will be gone during or after season 3. I think they are going to be lucky to be bowl eligible NEXT season. They are looking at 1 win this season, which is pathetic beyond words.

By season 3, he will be willing to sacrifice some of his buyout to get him and his family out of that ****hole.

He made the biggest mistake of his life.

I knew when I wrote it, that it'd be an unpopular take around these parts. Some of you were too pro-Frost. And clearly people don't like to admit when their wrong. I get it. But look at UCF this year. Their still winning... without Frost! That team is just fortunate to be in a position where they have more talent than everyone they play. Frost was never a good coach. But, of course, it's just my opinion. Let's just sit back and see how it plays out. Good coaches don't lose every game. I'm willing to bet money that Frost doesn't do well there. And I'm not the gambling type.

I agree. He was the hottest name in coaching for a month or so and took that to one of the worst places he could have gone.

I don't think many places were going to let him bring his whole staff with him, which apparently was one of his requirements. We see now that was a mistake.

I am not counting him out yet, he's developed winners wherever he has landed. But I think this is more like a Lou Holtz at South Carolina situation instead of Spurrier returning to Florida to take them to the promised land.

The inability to do that has made for some entertaining and face-palming reading around here.

I was pumped about Kelly; I thought recruits would be knocking down the door. The current state of affairs at Yewkla is showing otherwise. That was a good miss.

I felt like Frost was a flash in the pan; there just wasn’t enough data on him. ( See Muschump, Will) Now he’s obviously in a bad place and we’ll find out what kind of coach he is. Don’t know if this was a good miss or not.

Well I'm sorry but it's simply not a valid opinion to say that a coach is not at least a "good" coach when he led his team to a 13-0 record, including an impressive bowl win. You don't seem to be acknowledging a distinction between good and great.

Regardless of the talent level of his team, going undefeated certainly puts Frost in the "good" category. Not to mention, you seem to be forgetting (or maybe you didn't know) that UCF went 0-12 the year before Frost's arrival. 0-12! Where was all their awesome talent then?

I agree with you that Frost appears to have been overrated, based on the total lack of success he's having at Nebraska. Is he a great coach? It doesn't look that way to me right now. But you're being contrarian and going too far by saying he's not even good.

Good and Great in the context of what we're debating is apropos.
Look, I respect your opinion. I just disagree with it. I'm not practicing revisionist history here. I was never a fan of Frost's. I never thought highly of him.

Part of the problem of making these types of proclamations are that it seems like I'm going overboard in my criticism of Frost. He seems like a cool guy. I'm not upset with him. Nor do I intend to disparage him. I get that he's a good coach, evidenced by the fact that he's coaching at a P5 school. I was just never sold on Frost and didn't want him here.
I use "good" in the context of whether he's good enough to win at a P5. And to that I say unabashedly, NO!

I agree with you but as we've discussed before, it's because the priorities and outlook of young football recruits have changed dramatically since the Tom Osborne days. Every recruiting coordinator knows who the top recruits are, across the country, and conversely the top recruits are fully aware of their options. It's all but impossible to find a diamond in the rough, much less a well-known 5* commodity, and convince him to sign with a downtrodden, has-been program in the middle of Nowheresville, USA. Especially when Nowheresville has a <3% African American population and is cold AF in the winter.

Frost is looking very unimpressive right now -- he should've been able to squeak out at least one win against the teams they've played. But to some extent the jury remains out on him unless and until he is given another opportunity at a program that has a little more built-in appeal to recruits.

Well, it's hard to argue with the possibility of a powerful attraction that a bold and beautiful lesbian ass might hold for a cowardly closet Nole - who incidentally hasn't been laid since Burt was still attractive to women.

I’m not sure where I got this but did anyone else hear the story/rumor that when Lawrence Phillips was dragging his girlfriend down the stairs that Frost was locked in the bathroom?
