Georgia becomes third program to bump assistant salary pool past $6 million mark:

    UGA.PNG

Additionally, Georgia increased head strength coach Scott Sinclair’s salary to $450,000 (a 50% raise) and will pay Sinclair’s four assistants a total of $457,105.

And all this — a 40% raise for the 10 assistants and moving from 12th to third nationally in assistant coach pay — won’t even be the biggest raise Georgia doles out this off-season. Smart earned a paltry $3.75 million in 2017, good for 24th in the nation and fourth in his own division. That won’t be the case for much longer.

Smart will get close to $6.5-7 million. Hell, we just paid a guy $6 mill who has never won dick as a head coach.

@GrahamHall_: I'm sure all the DL prospects who just signed with Miami are totally fine with this

@BruceFeldmanCFB: I'm hearing there's a good chance Craig Kuligowski who is leaving #Miami will end up as #Alabama's new DL coach for Nick Saban.

Saban moves the RB coach to off-field position. Ruthless! No raises/salaries announced, but I imagine they'll be in line w/ the other ridiculousness out there:

Alabama: Running backs coach Burton Burns has moved into an off-field role as athletic director for football. Joe Pannuzio's title is running backs coach, Dan Enos’ title is quarterbacks / associate head coach, Craig Kuligowski’s title is defensive line / associate head coach, Josh Gattis' title is co-offensive coordinator / wide receivers coach, Pete Golding's title is co-defensive coordinator / inside linebackers coach, and Jeff Banks' title is tight ends coach / special teams coordinator.

Mississippi State: Former South Alabama head coach Joey Jones has joined Mississippi State as special teams coordinator, according to Scout.com.

Where Were They Then?: Examining where every FBS head coach was 10 years ago

          http://footballscoop.com/news/where-were-they-then-2018/

In a frustration experienced by job seekers across every industry, the easiest way to get an FBS head coaching job is to… already be an FBS head coach. Of the 130 current occupants of that office, 31 were FBS head coaches at this point in 2008, the largest of the 13 subsets that produce FBS head coaches.

The next best way to be an FBS head coach is to be a Power 5 coordinator or position coach. Twenty current FBS head coaches were Power 5 position coaches in 2008, while 19 were coordinators.

So, yes, the majority of Power 5 head coaches — 70 of 130; 53.8 percent — were already FBS head coaches or Power 5 assistants at this point one decade ago.

But that doesn’t mean the past most traveled is the only way to reach the holy grail. New Kent State head coach was the offensive coordinator at an Illinois high school at this point in 2008. Chad Morris went from a high school to running his own SEC program. Current coaching wonder boy Scott Frost was a position coach at FCS Northern Iowa at this point in 2008. Mizzou head coach Barry Odom went from DFO to head coach over that span.

          upload_2018-2-24_13-31-49.png

Before we dive in, a few nuggets:

          • Of the 31 current head coaches who were also FBS head coaches a decade ago, more were coaching at other schools (17) than their current one (14).
          • If I’m an AD looking for one subset to keep an eye on from 2018 to 2028, it’s Group of 5 coordinators. The nine head coaches who were in that group a decade ago: Neal Brown, Bryan Harsin, Tom Herman, Clay Helton, Dana Holgorsen, Gus Malzahn, Joe Moorhead, Matt Rhule and Justin Wilcox.
          • Ten programs have seen multiple assistants on their 2008 staffs become FBS head coaches: Stanford (leading the way with four), Florida (three), Arizona (three), Clemson, Texas, Baylor, Southern Miss, Duke, Alabama and Houston.
          • Coaches that made good on the “One day, I’m going to be running this place” promises that you know every one of them made to themselves: Neal Brown (Troy), Bryan Harsin (Boise State), Dan Mullen (Florida), Barry Odom (Missouri) and Scott Satterfield (Appalachian State).
          Without further ado, the list:

Texas: Defensive coordinator Todd Orlando would see a raise from $1.1 million to $1.7 million pending board approval. Additionally, new offensive line coach Herb Hand has signed a 3-year deal worth $640,000 a year.

Texas: AD Chris Del Conte has signed a 7-year contract that will pay him $1.3 million this year and rise to $1.57 million by the final year of the contract, with a $400,000 retention bonus to be paid on Aug. 31, 2024. The school will send a $1 million payment to TCU to buy Del Conte out of his contract there.

I think - as the head coach - his buyout is fully guaranteed.

Shannon took the DC job at UCF for $250K.....he gets that for 2 years and his salary goes to $1 million/year the 3rd year (because we're paying the difference the first two years). What a damn joke.

I'm not sure what Nussmeir is getting from the Cowboys, but I'm sure his agent told the Cowboys not to worry about a fat salary until the UF contract expires.

Nord ain't even working! Collecting $500K (I think) this year to do nothing!

I would love to know if the same idiots didn't put offset language in our new staff contracts. If not, they should be fired and an investigation into Stricklin. I am tired of this buddy system garbage.
