Regarding the makeup of coaching staffs, it seems that some believe the paradigm should be to identify the best assistant at each position group and assemble an elite staff without regard to familiarity or past relationships. If that's the model, it doesn't seem to take into consideration the chemistry of the staff being that these guys spend 60--80 hours together throughout a good part of the season and need to have a good working relationship.
On the other hand, I am curious as to how Gator fans would have reacted had Scott Frost been hired and brought his entire staff from UCF? Would anyone have expressed concern with that defensive staff coming to Gainesville? Do you think the AD would have said "you can't bring all your guys. You have to bring in some elite assistant coaches from elsewhere"? Would Frost have taken the job without the freedom to bring "his guys"? He obviously was allowed to take them all to another major college job.
