Couple of surprises here;

- Donovan Stiner starting Safety (over Brad Stewart)
- Jachai Polite (over CeCe Jefferson)

Florida Gators depth chart against Charleston Southern

Florida Gators week one depth chart against Charleston Southern

The Florida Gators announced their Week 1 depth chart on Monday prior to hosting Charleston Southern on Saturday. The depth chart is below.

In addition to Florida naming Feleipe Franks as the starting quarterback, there are a few other positions of note. Donovan Stiner appears to have beaten out Brad Stewart for a starting safety spot, while Jachai Polite beat out CeCe Jefferson for the starting Buck role. It's worth noting that Jefferson is still recovering from a shoulder surgery and was limited to non-contact work in most of fall camp.

Two starting jobs remain undecided, with centers Nick Buchanan and T.J. McCoy listed with an 'OR' designation, along with kickers Evan McPherson and Jorge Powell.

Both Safety spots surprise me.

TE is a concern.

And I'd be shocked if Perine is still ahead of Lemmons by midseason.

The Cece not starting shocked me, could it be because of his shoulder?

My contact told me it would be Franks a couple months ago. Hopefully Franks has improved on seeing the field and interceptions.

Interested in seeing how much this changes by game 3 (Suspensions & nagging injuries)

Very excited to see the DL work. Conliffe ahead of Clark is awesome

Polite over CC doesn’t bother me...if Polite sets the edge & CC spells him on certain passing downs

Mullen said they would substitute liberally so the players are fresher at the end of a physical SEC season. This has helped Bama minimize injuries.

Being deep at DT and DE like UF is can really help your defense.

I’m sure they will sub often.

Will know a lot more about depth & who they can trust in a 4th quarter tight game...not this week

How is Clayton not even on the depth chart. Has he been that much of a disappointment?

He’s not passing CC or Polite.

Zoo might be ready to step up & it appears Carter’s size pushes him ahead of Clayton.

Wouldnt be surprised to see Clayton get a few sacks this year as he rotates in.

I was most surprised by Hammond being the starting slot over Swain. I thought it would be Swain with Toney, Hammond and then Massey. I'm sure they're probably all cross trained at every position . So it's not a big deal really. Also surprised that Cleveland was starting over Grimes basically. Even though Grimes name is under Jefferson's on the chart.
Polite had a great fall camp. Wasn't really surprised about that one. Stiner starting at one of the safeties is slightly concerning. I know we're thin there. I'm hoping he's just one of those players that does the right thing and does the things the coaches asks of him. We have more athletic players that he beat out. So he must've played really well in camp.

Why? Cleve has more game winning TD catches than Grimes has catches?

As for Hammond, he blocks well.

The safeties have me terrified with the way Grantham gambles. Too many Butters specials back there and at #2 CB spots.

2 things stick out to me –

1. What the hell is going on with safety? Even though we knew safery would be a mess, nothing about those two starters strike any fear in any defense IMO.

2. How are Toney and Massey not in the slot?

1. We are dangerously thin at safety
2. Toney is suspended, Massey:dunno:

Yeah the Stiner thing makes no sense. Other than getting blocked on jet sweeps against LSU and missing tackles on special teams he did nothing his freshmen season.
