Just partnered with a new affiliate, FanDuel. FanDuel, which focuses solely on US sports, offers a slightly different take on the traditional fantasy sports game model. Instead of games lasting the whole season, players play and win in as little as a day – think of it as “one-night stand” fantasy sports.

There’s real money involved, so in that sense this isn’t far off from online betting. However, it's 100% legal, as FanDuel is exempt thanks to the fantasy sports carve out in the 2006 Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act; as stated, the only difference is that FanDuel-powered fantasy sports games only last a day (for baseball) or a week (for football). Check it out!

Is it safe? I've been wanting to do something like this for a while.

Couple of things:

1) Fantasy sports are legally considered a game of skill, so this is NOT gambling
2) They offer a complete refund if you play your first game and lose and don't like the site

ESPN had their "Outside the Lines" show this past week on fantasy sports betting. It's crazy how much betting is going on in this venue. The guy that they profiled - a post office worker by day - made over $650K last year. Most of it was made betting on 1-day baseball fantasy games as I recall. I think Fan Duel is on its' way to grossing $100 million this year on fantasy sports betting. And it's all legal due to that Enforcement Act that Ox cited. My guess is that the feds will try to change that now that they've seen how much it had grown.

heard them all over the radio in D.C. this week (ESPN 980)... they will match dollar for dollar up to $200 (?) in your account. I think they said it's $25 to start. Might be worth a shot. If anyone tries it ...let us know. They pay out right after the Monday night game.

You can join contests for different dollar amounts (enter for $1, $5, $10, $25, $200 etc) in which the top 20% or so win money. In fact, the person who wins the contest gets a huge chunk of change for what they bet. For example, here's a contest that will accept 1,787 people at $25 each. Of those 1,787, 296 of them will finish in the money:

So the winner ends up with $5,500 on his $25 entrance fee.

For those that want better odds, you can play the 50/50 games, where the top 50% of the field is in the money. So if it's a $10 entrance for 30 people, the top 15 will win $18 on their $10 entrance fee.

You can also play head-to-head with one other person. Whoever wins takes the pot, so it's also 50/50.

They have a ton of $1 and $5 games as well....you can play with small amounts.

As far as how to play, you pick a lineup of players going for that day. For baseball, you pick a single player at every position (3 for OF) with a set salary cap. You have a dollar amount you have to stay under for the whole roster - better players cost more money. Football is going to work the same way.

My NFL bets were pulled last night because not enough people signed up. Simple mistake on my part for picking those. I was just outside the money on the MLB games. I got the hang of this now... Today will be money!
