Gang its a combination of two things. One IMO from what I see up here Mason is NOT going to cut the mustard as a HBC. Vandy was in a position that they were not going to get a great coach and then the timing hurt as well. Second, the cupboard was pretty bare when JF left. The he poached the incoming class. Then there is still the aftermath of the Rape case from last year. There were some lost from that incident and deservingly so if they are in fact guilty. With that Vandy could not stand any loss to that program either being coach or players. They lost both and then some. So when you take Vandy at this point + Mason = Failure. Vandy is back to being Vandy. UToothless has a chance of not being at the botton.

Defensive minded head coaches need a functional offensive plan. I think Derek Mason is trying to pull a Muschamp up at Vandy. Franklin's offense was a spread and it looks like Mason is trying to reshape them into a Stanford style offense. Mason needs to at least decide who he wants to play QB. His decision to hire his college coach, Karl Dorrell, may be his downfall. Vandy has returned to the Woody Widenhofer years. They haven't got a clue on offense.

Very good article. This is certainly a rebuilding year for Mason. He probably won't make it more than 3 years, but it is too soon to determine if he will work out or not.

Mason doesn't seem to have it as a head coach. His handling of the Qb situation during the game shows he's not up to the task. Players look for a steady consistent hand at the wheel. Not some guy desperately flailing about.
