Jeremy Foley once he realized the CSU President was trying to play hardball:

The buyout stare down was a decisive win for Foley and UF: we pay 500k over 6 years (3 million), we pay CSU 2 million for coming to get smoked in the Swamp, McElwain pays 2 million himself. Foley's job is to protect Florida, he did that.

Um, they still got $7M. Not sure that's "Boss" status.

They got 3 million from Florida, and we'll pay them 2 million to get their butts kicked by their former coach in a game where we would have been paying someone else at least a million. So basically Foley got UF off the hook for 3.5 million. Well done!

I was under the impression that the buyout is 5 with an additional 2 on the game. 7 mil

In a few years we will have to revisit to see if this is true.

If it's true? Yes, it's true.

@JeffBarlis@GatorZoneScott: CSU gets $3M over 6 years, CSU to visit Swamp for $2M & McElwain pays CSU $2M = $7M.

That shows how much McElwain wanted this to happen. He's ponying up 2 million. Foley did his job, saved the University about 3.5 million. That's what great AD's do.

Math? 7.5 mill was original buyout. $3 mill + $2 mill = 5 mill. 7.5 - 5.0 = 2.5 ( which 2.0 mill which is "allegedly" coming from JM)....booster money...lol

CSU is getting $7.0 mill of original $7.5 mill

LOL

I like Foley overall, but this sounds like a Cuban Missile Crisis deal to me: "You turn your ships around and we'll remove all the missiles from Turkey if nobody says anything."

In this case, Foley saves face by agreeing to an inflated one-and-done deal and stuffing an extra half mil into Mc's pocket every year for him to gift to Fort Collins. Looks like we "saved" the Mil we would have given another sacrificial team, but outside that, meh.

Does anyone honestly think JM is paying the $2 mill out of his own pocket? BUWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!

UF boosters will be taking care of that a la Saban's house.

We're paying 3 million over 5 years, we're paying 2 million for them to play in the Swamp. Keep in mind we would have been paying someone else about 1 million for that game anyway, so it's 1 million in new expenses. That puts UF at 4 million on this buyout, down from 7.5 million. McElwain is ponying up another 2 million which in essence is penalty for having a crappy contract to begin with. CSU is satisfied, Foley and Florida are too, thus the deal is done.

Not crazy about 6 years either. That's where your extra money is...on the back end of the contract.

Buyout reduced and not due up front helps with budgeting. Worse thing that could happen is we walk away and not get our coach. Then everyone is crying we're going cheap. Good job getting the deal done.

We're paying Colorado State 2 million to play in the Swamp, instead of around 1 million for Podunk State University, so it's an additional 1 mill in new expenses. Besides, these championships Mac is going to bring us will make all of this look like chump change.

I'm sure both sides left a little pissed so it's a fair deal. Not great for either side, but fair. We got our guy and divided up the buyout in a way we can swallow. They got nearly all their money and have UF essentially paying for their next coach (until the next coach splits and they get the next school to pay for the coach after that). Win-Win as they say.

You know you're my favorite poster but your can-do-no-wrong view of Foley has always made me a bit uneasy. I know you admire the man, but I have a feeling that if he ran onto the middle of the field during a football game and took a dump, you would praise his innovation in trying out a superior fertilizer.

AD's make mistakes and Foley has made more than his share. No one is infallible.

And has already been mentioned, McElwain isn't going to have to pony up a single cent of his own money.

And please, nobody "like" this post. There are certain posters that are embarrassing to agree with.
