Well... there is no doubt that this will rub some people the wrong way... but what fun is a message board if you can't do that!

After last nights championship I believe that Foley has submitted his legacy as one of the best Athletic Directors ever. Foley hired coaches who have won championships in each of the major 3 sports. The accomplishment speaks for itself. I'm not saying Foley is perfect, he certainly has made mistakes, especially in regards to football with some bad hires and lack of investment in facilities, but the overall success of the athletic department under his leadership cannot be denied. Hate all you want (and I know many of you will), but with the Baseball Championship, the Gators under Foley's leadership have accomplished a feat that no other school has done in the modern era!

"Florida became the only school in SEC history to win national championships in football (1996, 2006, 2008), men’s basketball (2006, 2007) and baseball (2017). That’s pretty impressive and helps set the Gators’ athletic program apart from all the rest. The Gators join only Ohio State, UCLA and Michigan as the other schools to accomplish the monumental feat."

You could argue Cal and Stanford have also done that as they both have Mythical National Titles in football back when many publications crowned champions, but that doesn't really diminish the accomplishment.

Yes, everything supports that Foley was one of the best athletic directors ever. But some don't like to let facts get in the way. To be good, he needed to do everything perfectly.

Gentleman Jeremy. He is not perfect as AD but Foley will go down as a great AD one of the best in college history. And he didn't have 40 sports for his school to play like Stanford, UCLA, USC and the rest of the pac 10 / 12 have had. He had about half as many sports during his tenure as Gator AD. In the modern era of college sports in the last 50 years Foley's Gators were the only college to win the top 3 college sports historic trifecta of baseball, football and men's basketball national championships. Amazing. Thank you sir.

Foley is one of the best non-revenue sports athletic directors of our time.

Foley hired Zook, Muschamp, and Jim McElwain.....mic drop!

(Just kidding, I think Foley did a great job....for the most part....except w/ at least 2 of those 3 hires - jury is still out on the 3rd hire.....and some of the contracts he authorized are - to be nice - questionable).

As I said... he certainly was not perfect.. who is, but I his overall success speaks for itself. He did win 2 football titles which is more than we had won in all the years before

I think what Foley did the most was he brought UF into the modern era of college sports. Pre-1990 was a different era for college sports. There was rampant cheating, a lot less money, less TV, no internet, etc. He put UF "on the map" in the sports world.

I think during his tenure he was a top 5 AD, and one could argue "the best" (he was definitely the best SEC AD, no doubt). Programs like Stanford, Ohio State, UCLA, and many of the B10 and P10 programs that have - literally - 10 to 20 MORE sports than we participate in also have good/great AD's. Imagine having to deal w/ 10+ more programs (the coaches, athletes, the parents, travel, facilities/stadiums, scheduling, etc). One could argue that the SEC AD's have it A LOT easier than those other mega-athletic programs.

I think in a lot of fans eyes, football is king. And we've had great results.....and shltty results. While we went 13-1 under Foley's watch....we also went 4-8.
