From the stand this past weekend...

This was my view last Saturday. A balmy 16 degrees.

I managed to take a small doe that morning and then the wind picked up in the afternoon. We went back to the farmhouse and had some burgers and brats and watched the gators beat SC and Mizzou beat Vandy.

Went back and sat in a much smaller box stand. Just at the end of legal shooting light two does stepped out of the woods about 200 yards down the tree line. They fed around and kept looking into the woods behind them....then they loped out into the middle of a cut soybean field and a third deer emerged at 230 yards.

Thank god for good optics...the 300 win mag sent a 150 gn hornady SST into his shoulder. He was DRT.

2.5 (maybe 3.5) yr old 9ptr. Approx 200 lbs. Neck was all swollen up, and man did he stink.

Its not every day a 300 winchester mag won't pass through a white tail deer. Found this in the far shoulder as I was processing my buck. Those are some TOUGH animals.

The SST is my favorite of readily available ammo these days. Nice shooting, under 100 yards you may have gotten a pass through. But passing through both shoulders of a decent sized buck is asking a lot. Nothing beats a DRT shot when it comes to deer hunting!

I like SSTs too, but pretty much just use Barnes TTSX for deer here and I handload them

The gun was just so I could be sure of filling the freezer. When I'm hunting for sport, I prefer to choke them out with my belt. That way I don't ruin the cape on the 10 and 12 pointers I want to put on the wall. ;)

I did some bird hunting 20 years ago with my grandfather but have never deer hunted. Got on a lease with buddy this year. Never knew what I was missing!! We’re in central GA. Hunted every day morning and afternoon from 10/27 - 11/4 for my first trip. My buddy said just bust anything to get 1 under my belt. I had safety off and squeezing on a couple 4 pts but just didn’t want to shoot a small deer like that. Like spearing barely legal hogfish, not doing it. Was in a tent mid week, beautiful morning, facing E with breeze in my face. Just as the sun was topping trees out steps a nice 8 pt walking at me 100 yards out. Beautiful animal. My hands starting shaking so bad I could barely count the points through binoculars. Buck fever is real! The shaking only intensified once I got em in the scope 60 yards out and he turned. Thought I would never be able to hit him. The lord smiled on me though and I got him! Very thankful to have been fortunate enough to get this deer for my first! I’m hooked!!! Leaving the wife and kids Thanksgiving day and weekend to hunt! 169lbs

Same here. Bullet was just about to break through on would be exit side. Slit hide with pocket knife and it fell out. 60 yards shooting 7m mag.

Thats just crazy. I dont know that I would trust that meat after having been in direct contact with a rotting corpse-head right next to its eyes, ears, nose and mouth. And I know for a fact I wouldn't put the rotten head on the wall. His taxidermist is going to kill him.
