I don't care for concerts, but I was just telling a friend of mine last week that if I had to go to one, Petty is the one I would pick. So many incredible songs.

Wow, more sad news today. Geez, enough is enough. And yes, he was awesome in concert. Saw him in Gainesville, think it was '91 or '92. So many great songs with the Heartbreakers, and some good songs with the Travelling Wilbury's too.
He had a ton of great songs but I'm particularly fond of American Girl. Every time I hear it I think of Silence of the Lambs when the "great big fat person" is driving her van down the highway, singing and beating the steering wheel.
Dammit, I knew it was bad when I read he was taken off life support. His death hasn't even made it out yet.
Lots of thoughts going through my mind, including being in the elevated band break room at Dub's years ago and pulling off one of the ceiling tiles, only to have a crinkled up piece of paper fall into my hands -- a $200 a week contract for Mudcrutch from '74.
