Florida vs. Georgia in Jacksonville will be the featured Game of the Week on October 27. The reining SEC East Champ and SEC Champ Bulldogs will be picked again to win the East while the Gators, who won the two East titles before last season will be picked closely behind to start the season.
Florida was part of CBS’ SEC Game of the Week four different times in 2017, but the Georgia game is the only one with a scheduled time so far for the 2018 season. The two teams have matched up in front of a CBS national audience for each of the last 16 years.
Georgia leads the all-time series between the two schools 49-43-2 and they hold a 44-40-1 lead when the two teams meet in Jacksonville, just 75 miles from the Florida campus. The record between the two schools has changed dramatically since 1990 as Florida holds a 21-7 advantage over Georgia since the start of the Steve Spurrier era.
Florida has won three of the last four contests against the Bulldogs having lost last year,
Distinguished TV hosts Brad Nessler and Gary Danielson will be calling the game for CBS, while sideline Allie LaForce will carry on her duties with in-game cutouts and commentary.
As mentioned, game times and TV appearances have yet to be determined for the other 11 contests for the 2018 season. All SEC games should be carried via CBS, ESPN, or the SEC Network.
Florida opens up play against Charleston Southern on September 1. The first SEC contest comes a week later when the Gators host Kentucky on September 8. Florida will host Colorado State in a ‘Jim McElwain contract game’ on September 15. The Gators won’t see the road until they travel to Tennessee in the fourth week of the regular season and play in Knoxville on September 22.
In what could prove to be the toughest three-game stretch for Florida during the season, they go from visiting Tennessee to traveling to Starkville Mississippi and playing the highly regarded Mississippi State Bulldogs on September 29 in the ‘Dan Mullen Bowl’. Then they get the ‘Hurricane replacement game’ at home versus LSU on October 6. The Tigers are also considered a pretty good squad by many before the season starts.
The always tough Georgia game will have a bye week before it, but is sandwiched between a trip to Vanderbilt and the improving Commodores and home game against Missouri, who many have making big strides in 2018.
The Gators finish the season with a couple of home games against former Florida head coach Will Muschamp as he brings his South Carolina Gamecocks to Gainesville, the non-conference play versus Idaho in The Swamp, and then concludes the regular season in Tallahassee against Florida State.
Florida is looking to improve on the 4-7 season they posted in 2017 and most predict a 7-8 win season for the Gators in 2018.
