We spend more than any other industrialized nation on healthcare with worse results, why do you think that is?

What do you propose we do about it?

What do we do about end of life care which eats up more of our healthcare cost in the last few months than a lifetime of healthcare costs combined and how do we differ from other nations in this regard?

Because we let so many profit from it instead of just the actual care providers. Capitalism.
Also because we are SMARTER than the rest of the world and always get it right.

Govt stuck its nose in it. Remove the job tying policies and push to the individual and then let Darwin do his job.

Describe what you mean by worse results because the studies I read on places like Canada, UK, and other nations may get free visits for colds and prescriptions but when it comes to major stuff they are more likely to suffer than they would here.

We keep trying to "solve" it, until whatever system we've set up collapses.

    Then, we start again.

Or we realize dying slower isn't that great.

Pay Doctors and RNs less like most of the other western countries. Limit costs of drugs etc. like the other countries also to stop us paying for all the R&D.

    Introduce some free market pressures.

Allow some high deductible, catastrophic care policies.

Standard pricing (real prices) for everybody, whether insured or not. No more super-inflated walk-in prices so the hospital can negotiate an 80% discount for some insurance company or try to get more reimbursement for treating the indigent.

Have a single national standard for insurance policies and allow insurance to be sold across state lines with reciprocal care agreements.

Unyoke it from employment. This is insanity.

In essence, make it more like car insurance which is very reasonable.

Fix laws that allow people to abuse ambulances and emergency rooms. Compensate by expanding availability of and access to walk-in clinics manned by nurse practitioners in places like Wal Mart. We have a shortage of doctors and its getting worse. Let's use them where they can do the most good.

Tort reform. Change the incentives for these trial lawyers. We need to cut back on "defensive medicine". Let patients sign informed consent waivers. Not every headache merits an MRI. Give the patient the option of paying an extra $XXX for the MRI or signing a waiver.

Right now, most of us don't have any skin in the game when we shop for medical care. If our deductible is $6,000, we really don't care if the surgery costs $16,000 or $60,000. We're not even going to try to understand the bill. Probably the only success of Obamacare (an unintended consequence) was the super-high deductible plans actually encouraged people to check prices and shop around.

    Or "any" government at all.

Step 1: Define a problem as a "crisis."

Step 2: Define government as the solution, since every crisis demands the govt "DO SOMETHING!"

    Everything else flows from there.

I think it is the opposite. Conservatives have been trained to hate government, even when they benefit from the government. "Keep government out of my Medicare."

You are not going to solve the health care crisis because in the end we all get sick and die and we live in an affluent country with a lot of technology and resources. Where there is money to be made there are people who will manipulate the system to increase their wealth.

Ya think that maybe we'd get more people finding full time jobs instead of part time jobs if health care wasn't tied to employment? Hmmm...

It is not capitalism. We do not have a free market when it comes to health care. Between government programs, such as Medicaid and Medicare, and socialized medicine, in the form of heavily-regulated private insurance/Obamacare, and heavily regulated related fields, such as pharmaceutical products, our health care market is almost as far from capitalistic as you can get. And, as is the case with all big government programs, there are a multitude of hands out seeking payment that would not otherwise be there in a free-market system.

If care in the US is worse, then why are people from all over the world coming here for their care?
