At everyone of Scott's press conferences that I watched he had a gaggle of people standing behind him... why?
put theirs butts to work and stop standing around... the baddest hurricane of all time just laid waste to many parts of the state, it's time to roll up the sleeves and get to work (I know they were mostly before it hit, but still, why 15 people standing with him?).

They are the leaders or PR peeps of the respective agencies of which he controls budgets and appointments.

I just read yesterday that facial expressions are a very big part of sign language. I think the guy is completely legit.

That's pretty amazing, Brad. Those in central Florida often think they are safe from major hurricane damage - this one sure opened some eyes.

You must be seriously glad you bought that generator at the last minute.

This guy is 100% authentic. I have a friend who is an ASL interpreter herself, here's what she said when I sent her video of the guy:

ASL interpreters also use facial expressions and body language to further convey the emotion of what they are saying, since you obviously can't hear voice inflections when you're deaf.

Now the guy that was trotted out for Manatee County was not a real interpreter. Apparently the county didn't have someone for the job, and this guy has a deaf brother, so he knows some ASL. They asked him to do it, he initially refused, and one way or another they forced him to do it.

Hope that clears things up for the ASL experts around here.

I feel really bad for the guy in Manatee County. I give him a ton of credit for trying.

You can see how much of that storm was knocked out when it hit Cuba. Incredible.

It slowed it down and took some energy which was regained over warm Straits of Florida. The cold front wind shear is what saved our ass above Orlando-ish.

My favorite deaf interpreter of all time (and gosh, there are so many) is still Lydia Callis.

luckily never lost power even though it flicked of a couple times for about 30 seconds. i think they moved us last year to the same grid as the FD. Lost our fence and lots of debris, but our neighborhood wasn't to bad. My brother in laws neighborhood thats just a few miles away lost a bunch of oaks, but nothing to his property.
