 I'm on SECO (Sumter Electric Coop)... their website say: Power Status: predicted OFF, no update. They say 20,000 of their 57,000 Marion County customers our out of power. Their website is actually pretty cool in that you can see a county wide map of every single outage instance.

He was EPIC! He needs to be the interpreter all the time. He is getting a lot of respect and admiration on the intrawebs. People say he is one of the best out there and his facial expressions are spot on.

He was on Jimmy Kimmel last night - signed some of the monologue.

What is interesting is that I believe Sas said that the interpreter himself is deaf. He's not translating what he hears, but is either reading off a teleprompter, or is being signed to himself by a hearing translator. I'm still not sure what the advantage of that is, but it kinda made sense because as Jimmy Kimmel was doing a scripted monologue joke the guy was signing, but when Kimmel was ad-lib-ing, the guy wasn't signing and looked kinda lost.

I've been reading about your dilemma Brad and I truly feel bad for you....I thought I remember you having one of those back up generator systems installed at your house? Maybe it was someone else. We will most likely be getting one here too. My current generator only has 2 of it's 4 receptacles working so thank God we were only without power for about 14 hours despite living in a heavily treed area.
At least you can keep yourselves cooled off by getting in and out of the pool. I sure hope your power is restored soon. If you need something to occupy your time while catching a buzz just do a shot everytime that you walk into a room and go to hit the light switch....Hang in there.

Hitting a light switch has been damn funny. No, I dont have a whole house generator. I have a 2000W quiet Honda portable. It powers a window unit keeping our bedroom ice cold, a small fridge, and power strip in the bedroom for lamps and chargers. Cleanup has occupied nearly all of my time, but at night we have been playing a ton of board games. Ticket to Ride has been the big game this go around.

These honda generators are designed to be ran in series, so I will get another one this winter and install a manual transfer switch. Then I can run the well and normal fridge in the kitchen. If we had that... then life at home would be close to normal.

I hear ya about the clean up. I'm so freakin' exhausted from clearing our property as well as our office and my mothers house that I can barely stand. My back and hammies are fried from all the bending, lifting and dragging tons of tree limbs, thank God I bought myself a chainsaw last week. Our big problem during storms here is flooding in the front of our property and down our driveway leading to the cottage. I literally have to set up a revetment system using about 100 or so retaining wall blocks that line our driveway in different locations to slow the flow of water before it reaches the front of the house and cottage....I put all that back and stowed my sandbags yesterday evening. All I could do was walk into the pool and drink 4 beers before collapsing on the couch until this morning....I'm about 75% done with my clean up and storage of storm items and I ain't gonna touch any of the rest until the weekend.

Great to hear you made it through Crete. I was worried about you and flooding. How did that seawall hold up? Did the snake make it out alive?

Thanks NV. We decided a few months ago to get a new vinyl seawall and were in the permitting process now and it should be done next month. I'll bump the old thread to show the construction process and such. The Shelby has now gone through 2 Hurricanes outside, and it makes me sick to my stomach but I park it in a lot with no trees next to the house or at our parking lot at the office last time.
The flooding here is just stupid. I stayed awake all night checking the front with a pump ready to plug into the generator(we lost power around 10.00PM) and letting water out of the pool until the power went out. Funny thing was I had just finished letting more water out of the pool and went outside to shut the pump off when I thought it would be a good time to take a peek at the front of the cottage....a series of transformers blew when I got down to the cottage and there was blue flashes and a eerie metallic sound like something out of the War of the Worlds movie.....I don't think Usain Bolt could have made it back to th house any faster than I did at that moment....:lol2:

Water damage, FPL restored power at 430am today, no home internet ATT- no surprise with them... love those sticky, fan blowing nights, glad that's over for now :eek3:
