Anybody ever spend time at Lake Lanier north of Atlanta? I've been looking around online at lakefront property and some of the stuff there looks pretty good. I'm still somewhat leery of corps of engineer lakes though, they seem to have some pretty big level changes at times.

It wasn't that long ago that the drought was causing that lake's water levels to significantly drop. May still be an issue. :dunno:

I live about 40 miles south of there. The lake was lake was practically unusable because of the drought a few years ago.

Visited there a long time ago. Beautiful, but I have no knowledge of the risks you're talking about.

I've seen pics of other lakes further north... just south of the tn and sc borders. They also look like great areas for those who prefer hilly and lake views like me. I'd have to verify the hostility level of the local canine population before I seriously consider buying. Butt sniffers...

Did that drive - from DC to Ithaca - last month. Very beautiful in the summer! Finger lakes are spectacular.

Took this pic over Tahoe about 15 years ago.

I need the sunshine & I'd love to be on the intracoastal with dockage for a decent but manageable sized sailboat - 36' - not too far from Sebastian Inlet so I could sail to the islands, Keys etc.

That's badass Zambo. And you are absolutely correct about living on the Nevada side. Glenbrook ain't bad. Incline is also perfect.

I'd just be a little hesitant to live in a place that sees so much tourist traffic. If I moved out to the boonies all I'd want to see people-wise are the others who live out there too, not a bunch of city mice crowding up my space.

There isn't that much on the Nevada side. Glenbrook would be your place.

If you wanted to stay in CA., have you been to Graeagle?

Side note: all this time I thought you were a Marine.

LOL why would anybody want to stay in CA if they didn't have too? Yeah I was a Marine, the training jets say Navy on some and Marines on the others, we share them all.

I wouldn't. It's why I left. But Graegle is a nice spot without all the damn tourists.

Northern CA is a beautiful place but I'll be honest if I ever move away from San Diego its going to be to a state with low overall taxes with an almost mandatory requirement of no state income tax.

Sounds like Northern Nevada, just across the CA. border, is your spot.

I'd love to live in Hanalei (my favorite place ever), just 15 minutes down the road from Anini Beach. But they did say to limit it to the lower 48, which for me would be either Seattle (where I live now) or Portland.

Oh, I see where you're going with that:

"Puff" :bandit: the Magic Dragon lived by the sea
and frolicked in the autumn mist
    in a land called 'Hanalei'...

    "Really? What island?"

    "Comonawanalaya."
