This schitstorm started over comments Trump made about immigration. We are no longer a new country expanding westward needing boatloads of immigrants, rather a country trying to pull ourselves back from the edge of financial ruin. Homeland Security and the Dept of State yesterday announced Haiti, Samoa and Belize are no longer eligible for H2-A and H2-B temporary work visas.

"The FRN citation of cases of Haitian nationals having high instances of fraud and abuse as well as a higher likelihood of overstaying their visas was made based on input from the State Department, in the cases of fraud, and from State and DHS related to the volume of Haitian nationals who overstay their visas and remain in the country illegally,” Waldman said.

Two hundred and seventy-six H-2B visas, for seasonal workers, were issued to citizens of Belize in the 2016 fiscal year, but the Central American country has been blocked from the program amid concerns that it does not meet U.S. standards to protect victims of trafficking, DHS said.

Though no H-2A or H-2B visas were issued to Samoans in fiscal year 2016, DHS said they had blocked the country for not taking back nationals ordered removed from the United States.

I’m grinning ear to ear on the wall.

Eventually all the smart people who know everything will figure it out.

Indians are coming in with H1B visas and educations as doctors and IT specialists who contribute to the tax base. The country is impoverished but they value education and do their best to see that their kids work hard and receive the best education the family can afford. Systems are not in place in many of the countries he referred to so what we get is unskilled lottery immigrants that hold menial jobs (if at all as 50 percent end up on the dole). We simply cannot sustain that.

We have to go to merit based non-chain migration for any immigrants. You have to come with a skill and be able to contribute because we are no longer an industrial country with tons of low skill jobs. And that will become more and more true with robotics. We need our kids to learn code, programming, and other IT skills that will assist in our tech revolution. Our kids are lazy, most don't want to learn STEM fields any more than they want to put on roofs. Our schools need to change and force them to learn the skills necessary to get us to the next place in our countries evolution. My daughter loves STEM now, did not at first, made her go to STEM outside school hours in addition to her engineering/robotics class. I don't know if she will choose MIT (she wants to be a vet) but at least she has been exposed, and has friends with those interests so it is more "cool" now.

That is pretty neat. I think one of the real problems with math science education is they dont seem to take time to give the kids some context of why the things they are learning is important and what kind of careers you can do if you master the subjects.

Don't know about all schools but my kids are in an engineering program in a middle and high school and I started them in robotics by 4th grade. They definitely get that robotics and artificial intelligence, as well as the cloud and computing are the future. They understand cryptocurrency and "mining" as well as blockchain technology far better than I. They are very aware of opportunities available.

But I think my ex and I both being in medicine has given the younger two that bug. My little girl flirts with engineering but loves animals and thinks she wants to be a vet, my middle an interventional radiologist. My oldest loves drama, no idea what he is going to do though he is flirting with law. But at least they have stem experience, and were exposed. And the discipline of such serious studies has given them excellent college resumes.

Check out the stats for Nigeria. They are more educated than the average Americans. They end up making more than the average American. But Trump targeted them anyway.

They know they are extremely generous. I am always getting emails from wealthy Nigerians wishing to share huge sums of money.

They had the Clintons develop their ethics training there. Thanks to that, they are, without question, the most corrupt nation in the world.
