I realize that the quote is from a previous season but the narrative is the same as far as the product on the field. Franks did look decent but that O-line is a nightmare and that's not the last time they are going to see "big, strong" D-lineman. They have some work to do because if we can't run the ball we are in BIG trouble.

2222, I admire your passion and your narrative after reading your last couple of posts seems to be...a little less myopic, maybe?! Truth is from where I sit (and it's getting to be a crowded seat!), If Mac is as dumbfounded as he looked after the game, then he is in the wrong profession. However, he could make millions selling vacuum cleaners door to door after what he was able to pull off in the interview that got him this gig.

Gator football, the flagship sport, in comparison to the entire athletic program in which all sports (with the notable exception of women's basketball) seem to either be winning it all or in the hunt, is pulling up the rear. The only analogy I can make is that it is like a family where the kids are excelling in school and extra-curricular activities, mom is running a clean household and managing to work to supplement the family income, but "dad" stays drunk and can't keep a job. We need to get "dad" into a dry-out center, pronto!

Mac has no business coaching college football if he's only now realizing the depth of the problem he created. I don't buy it. It's three seasons in and the product is no better than it was the first year. He knew it prior to Saturday. He's in over his head and incapable of figuring it out. He's a career assistant masquerading as D1 head coach.

If 2222 is correct and Mac was shocked at what happened, we're toast. After all if he couldn't "fix it" all offseason how the hell will he now? Not by saying so in a press conference - that's been tried already.

I never bought this O line was just going to become real good because they were a year older just based on past O lines in the SEC. We were the worst rushing offense in the whole SEC last season and may be again this season. I did think we may actually be average after listening to the hype but my thinking now is we wont be hardly any better than last season there.

I agree that Butters looked like a man who knows his job is on the line, especially after demanding that Nusschump not be fired and spreadingnthat "Wrs were running around open bs".

Yes, I agree that the offense is broken and he has finally noticed.

Not sure why you thinknhe has a clue about fixing it.

Most of the problems are simply piss poor recruiting. That cannot be fixed except via time and a new staff. Ivey cant pass block, there is no fixing that. Taylor is too slow to play tackle. Fred is worse. Jordan too soft. The backups are worse still. Maybe Riles can help. I dont know how bc he was always terrible too.

There are some things that could be fixed via play calling. He ciuld learn what Creyer learned (once) and add a fullback, but he wont. He could also attack the field instead of playing to avoid ints at all cost, starting with borrowing some playbook that includes passes that attack the middle ofnthe field too, but he wont because it is central to his makeup.

He is stuck w a terrible playcaller and gawdawful "WR coach" (actually a directional school RB coach).

I guess it is nice that he knows he will be unemployed soon, but that doesnt make the team any better.

He frankly is less than Derek Dooley.

It is going to be a long season with our defense being even softer and another year of Nusschump on offense.

Wanna know how you can tell we're playing a ranked opponent?

The look of disbelief on Mac's face.

Bad coaching doesn't start at the whistle. It starts with bad recruiting. And it goes on from there. Here are a few questions for you:

    Quarterback

Would Franks have tripped over an OL's foot if he hadn't shared all the snaps in practice with Zaire and LDR? Would he have seen the game a little faster if he had 2x or 3x as many snaps? It's the coaches' job to pick a quarterback, teach him to play, and give him enough practice to be ready.

    Offensive Line

Would the middle linebacker have been as close to the line if we were willing to throw across the middle?

Would Michigan have blitzed as much if we were throwing quick outs and slants on the blitzing side? (and would Franks have been able to do that if he had more practice? see above)

Would a draw play or screen pass (NOT a bubble screen, a real screen pass) have slowed down the pass rush?

After three years of poor O-line play, would a fullback help?

Do the coaches know it's within the rules to play another lineman in the TE position?

Does anybody on the Florida sideline remember the concept of "play action?"

    Running Backs

How is it that everybody in the stadium and watching TV can tell that Thompson has an incredibly slow first step and doesn't play anywhere near his weight, but the coaches can't? Yes, every once in a great while he looks great against cornerbacks, but he doesn't get there often enough to be worth the risk.

Was I imagining things, or did a guy named Davis look great the one time he touched the ball?

Has anybody mentioned to them that sometimes defensive players blitz, and they should probably be looking out for that?

    Receivers

I wish I had something brilliant to say, but they were hardly relevant. The one thing I'd ask is, did anybody go to the quarterback or the coaches and say, "Damn it! I'm beating this guy every time. Just throw me the damn ball!" If we don't have a receiver who demands it, we don't have a receiver.

    Special teams

Is there a special teams coach, or do the punter and kicker practice on their own, and then everybody just raises their hands and yells "PICK ME!" right before each kick-off and punt?

    Defense

You kept us in the game far longer than we deserved. You were the walking dead by the time they ran it up. That's on the coaches, not you.

it's not just bad recruiting, it's piss poor conditioning. when you look at our offense of lineman our little 240 lb defensive ends or our running backs, do you think why we must have a great conditioning program? do bammer players ever look like this? do we even have a weight room?

these things are 3 years in the making and it'll take at least that with a good coach to undo it.

Have we got an explanation on why Franks was pulled... if we are going to ride with the RS, then let him work through is mistakes on the field. Zaire added nothing, and it was obvious from the first play.

Same story of the last decade? We don't have an offensive line, this is year 3... it's completely on Butters.

Thompson shouldn't be on an SEC rosters outside of Special Teams help. Perine and Davis should have been the only two backs in the game. But without an OL it doesn't matter who is back there.

Even with Callaway this group is a disappointment. But again no OL, no time for route to develop, but no short stuff. That is Nusschamp.
Punter was our best player on Saturday, and it wasn't even close. Pinero is more accurate, but you still get the feeling he is learning how to kick. We don't have a return man that knows when to return and when not to, same issues for the last roughly decade.

Only people who earned their pay. Without the above their talent play of our defense Michigan beats us by half a hundred.

Shouldn't Nuss be working with the team instead of posting on this board? No wonder he's so terrible

After Tennessee comes in here and wipes the floor with us, this team will all but quit. You'll still have a few players playing hard and trying, but it won't be enough to get us to a bowl game I'm afraid. I'm really struggling to find 5 wins now.

I wasn't sure which of the 20+ threads to post this in...but this is as good as any.

Part way through the 3rd quarter, I was telling the wife that if I were one of the kids on the team, the first thing I'd do when I got back to campus would be walk up to each of the suspended players and blast them for putting themselves ahead of the team. Stupid and Selfish on their part, and it hurts the team more than it hurts those individuals.

After the game, I had a lot more come to mind that has continued to bother me (warning: TL; DR imminent).

If I were a player, yes I'd be mad at the idiots who got themselves suspended, but I'd have much more serious concerns looking at the staff and wondering if I have a chance to make the NFL under their 'guidance'. I'd be wondering what I've gotten myself signed up for, and if these guys will turn it around or get replaced...and then who do I have to play under? The suspended players made selfish decisions. This staff is making decisions for ALL of us, and they aren't good decisions. Big Question #1 - Can this staff actually coach?

Later, I reflected on the onus of the coaches as it relates to the suspended players. Yes, individuals make a choice, but Mac is the guy that recruited them, has them in a system and environment where they aren't policing themselves and aren't watched by team managers to keep out of trouble. Yeah, a kid may make a bad decision - isn't that part of you're assessment in recruiting them, and if you recognize this 'bad decision' potential aren't you responsible for the environment you have them in? If you are counting on them to contribute, you sure as heck need to be ensuring they are eligible to contribute. Injuries happen and you can question if the S&C program is robust enough or too punishing. Poor decision making by an individual or two is on the individual. Multiple players pulling a stupid, some of them repeatedly, is on the coaches. Big Question #2 - Can this staff manage college kids?

Year 3 and no improvement on offense - play calling, getting kids in a position to succeed, etc. As a player, I wouldn't be soaking in the constant negativity from GCMB, nor the Nuss hate. However, even coming from a mediocre HS program, I would have the expectation that staff at a P5 program like UF would a) have the expectations of staff to be able to do more, and b) have the accountability to fire and replace if staff wasn't doing more. Nuss isn't doing it (don't care if he's a lovable BFF, we need an OC). Big Question #3 - Is Mac going to replace Nuss with someone who can OC, or is Stricklin going to replace Mac with someone who will get it done? If so, WHEN?

Bah...there was probably more, but I'm too disgusted right now. As a player, I'd hold myself accountable, and my teammates, for what we can each control. But I'd be looking at this staff asking WTF is our future?

Back to the thread title....kids have accountability, but this is mostly on the coach(es). There may be other factors, but at this point, it IS the coach(es).
