Sorry, rather confusing post. Basically, unless you've got a crystal ball a coaching pick is a crap shoot as to whether or not they are championship caliber. Sure, you can use an educated guess, but it's just that, a guess. The coaching ranks are littered with "can't miss" guys who floundered and "losers' who found the right formula and became winners. But as I said, we're at the same place having the same discussion we've been having since Mac was fired. Mullen was way down my list of candidates. I was dead set against him for many of the reasons you and others have stated. But when looking at the coaching landscape there were no can't miss guys available. As Strciklin said, the coaching pool was pretty much a puddle. It's obvious we never were going to get Kelly or Frost as has been mentioned numerous times. "High ceiling" sounds good but that applies to a million guys. It's just another way of saying "he could be great, but he could also suck balls." I've asked people on here forever to give me a name. Someone who we could actually have gotten that's significantly and quantifiably better.
