Knute Rockne and the perfection of the forward pass. Rockne teamed with quarterback Gus Dorais in 1913 to develop the novel concept of leading the receiver and having the receiver catch the ball on the run instead of having the receiver just stand still and catch the pass like you were catching a medicine ball.
