What if I say, in fairness West Virginia was more a well oiled machine. They were good last year, same QB and a mature cohesive OL/DL. Grier is a future NFL QB. It was too much for a new staff to coach their team up for that kind of challenge game one.

West Virginia is very good, but they don't suddenly have a top defense. UT only scoring twice against a Big 12 defense is pretty bad.

It could have and should have been much worse. The West Virginia offense shot themselves in a foot in the first half. Their defense (if you throw out their FCS opponent) gave up an average of almost 33 points per game. The football powerhouse that is Kansas scored 34 last year. The offensive philosophy appears to be Muschamp-esk.

That's a real shame. Heartbreaking.

Indeed. I, for one, was hoping that scoreboard would melt from the electrical heat being generated. But that is pretty much what I hope for every time UToothless takes the field.

Their suffering is food for my soul. At least we got a glimmer of hope with our new coach. I would hate to be a Tennessee fan today. In fact, a friend I’m deployed with lives in Knoxville (he’s a reservist) and is a big UT fan. Might just have to ask him how things are going tonight.

I worked in East Tennessee for 6 years. UT are the most insufferable fans on the planet. Their hatred towards Florida was very deep, I'd say far more than we have towards them.

Silence so far on my Facebook from them, which is always a good thing. Can't wait to beat their asses in 3 weeks.

Any team that can score twice should have a pretty easy game against one of the many SEC East Mushchumps.

all the usual "Nick Saban was only 7-5 once" and "Nick Saban lost to NE Louisiana" you just have to wait.

I totally agree w' you. Living here is great when ut sux. They hate UF with some much venom that it is absolutely hilarious. I really fire them up when I tell them I dont care about the ut rivalry. I tell them they are about 5th on the list behind uga, fsu, lsu and sc. That pisses them off so bad. Good night for the gators and lets keep getting better.

Yep. Tenn actually put up a fight in the first half, but their offense is a mirror image of what Muschamp ran. It's as if Pruitt got pointers from Muschamp in the off-season (but seriously, the ball control, clock running, conservative 1st/2nd down plays will be a slow death - if they continue down this route; and there's no reason to think it'll change). I'm guessing Pruitt builds a solid defense and the offense will be sore spot for the next several years. They do have a top QB committed. I can't see UT being more than a 7-5 to 9-3 football team w/ Pruitt. I could be wrong, but I thought I was watching Will Muschamp yesterday.

No pass rush. 3 freshman in the secondary. Sounds like UT is in for a long year. It breaks me up inside.

Five takeaways from Tennessee’s loss to West Virginia

If you don't want to give a vol a click, here's the gist of the article:

1. O-line was awful but got better as the game went on. (The author is being kind.)

2. Their QB looked confident. Had his best game as a vol.

3. 3 freshman started in the secondary. Pruitt chose to leave them on an island rather than give the freshman help.

4. No pass rush. Grier had all day.

In other words, this could be a long, long year for the vols. :rotfl:
