A little depressing seeing those offensive numbers.

Anyway,, on to the article, the Daz earned any criticism thrown his way. Times have changed, better athletes across the board everywhere, and with our rivals having out-recruited us lately Mullen will have to be more imaginative with the play calling. Sideways passing and QB dives won’t take any team to the promise land these days.

Oline will once again determine how well this offense can get points on the board. Hopefully the new S&C program has them at capable of holding their blocks long enough for the play to develop, we got pushed around away too easy, even by inferior teams.

        5 month old article?

I think this offense will surprise people. We have numerous playmakers in this offense unlike last season.

        PLAYMAKERS BY POSITION:

WR: Grimes, Toney, Cleveland, Van Jefferson and solid back ups.

RB: Scarlett, Lemons, Davis (if recovers)

        TE: Gamble

We just need to make it less complex for our QBs. If Franks continues to not process the field well then Mullen will sit him.

What strikes me about your post is that despite having a fistful of QBs on the roster, you can't list the position or any names as a PLAYMAKER. And there begins our problem.

The QB is the most important person on the field. Franks physically can do it but has not proved to me that he can process the field . Till Franks proves it I can't list him as a playmaker. Trask hit some passes and was able to process the field in the Spring game but we need to see something in real games before I say he is a playmaker. Emory Jones was able to process the field in high school but is a true freshman. Among the three I think an adequate QB will develop but not a playmaker yet. We just need to let it play out.

Versus what we had last year on offense I think it will be night and day. QB will be better than last year and the QB that starts has more weapons to throw to and there will be a better physically developed OL. People expecting last year's ineptitude on offense will be surprised.

From coaching alone, I expect a night and day change. Until I see it on the field, I have big doubts about a better QB - even if this staff is more capable than the last in developing the position, they haven't had much time with them nor is there a lot of base talent to build with, IMO (ignoring EJ due to a lack of college snaps). I'm right there with you that the RBs are a strength, and we keep being told each year the WR corps is good (when not suspended or injured) and I believe the talent is there as well. The other hole we have yet to know if it is filled is the OL.

I was born a pumper. I like to think I still keep a glimmer of hope somewhere deep down inside (and I refuse to be a dumper). But I'm mostly in a wait-and-see mode. I'm with ya, I just can't feel as positive about what's coming until I actually see it on the field.

I think the QB will be better. Last season defenses had fewer UF offensive weapons to worry about. Contending with that alone will put less pressure on the QB. Trask and Emory Jones were unavailable last season.

I personally want Trask at this point but for
whatever reasons in the past the players liked Franks better and Franks is more athletic. I would rather have less athletic and better processing of the field.

I’m convinced that jhbyrd is Coach9 reincarnate.

Maybe in spirit but Coach9 was probably a Chimp family member. He liked Chimp more than the program and left when he did, no doubt to infect Barn boards.

I agree but I think he misses a major point, Tebow was hurt much of 09 so we tried to protect him w less runs and less inside stuff and Brantley was no running threat at all, much like Leak.

Mullinz may be better than Daz, I agree, but this offense IMO requires a running Qb. Even Mullinz saidbat least a willing runner. That was missing in 10, 05, and much of 06 and 09.

I hated control freak Muschamp's insisting on controlling the UF offense. It was his undoing.

I played DE and Flanker in high school so I understand the game but do not know the game better than a coach.

There are a lot of coaches that don't know the game and get by on being friends with people.

A friend of mine is a lifelong High School coach. He went to one of those meet the coach gigs with a Big 10 School. He kind of idolized the guy until he met him. He said he left there thinking he just spoke to the dumbest guy in the room.

Coaching's like most other professions, a lot of people who should be doing something else.

And plenty who got there just because they had a certain name.

True. I have also seen some poster coaches discussing things at very advanced levels.

Years ago a friend asked me to be an assistant little league coach and I told him I was clueless. He said he was sure I could do it so I said ok. A week in, he quit. The parents insisted I take over. I told them I was clueless. They insisted. I accepted. We won the division. How? I couldn't begin to tell you.
