So 95% of the movie was good.
I missed this earlier. There's a LOT more to a film than one acting performance and some action sequences.

Shawshank and Pulp Fiction are far superior films to Forest Gump.

Yeah, it's probably the fault of the newbie director.......

It's a miracle that it actually has surpassed all other movies in total sales, worldwide.

The Twilight movies killed it at the box office. Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland (which got obliterated in reviews) made over $1 billion. The two most mentioned movies in this thread (Titanic and Avatar) are the two highest grossing movies of all time. Ticket sales don't mean jack sh*t when we're talking movie quality. And Clint Eastwood, while he's made a few fantastic films that have had both box office an awards success, is not that great of a director.

Well Siskel, or is this Ebert you're channeling? Either way, you're entitled to your own opinion, wrong as may be. :therethere:

So your sole criterion for film quality is the box office haul? And you're talking about being wrong??

No, that's not what I said at all. That's what YOU said I said. Notice the difference?

Well you technically said something about Clint Eastwood and his experience, which doesn't assure quality, either. Then you said it's made a lot of money. So..........

Should have added a couple of movies: Big Hero 6 (wow) and John Wick (surprised me... actually pretty good).

The Avengers. Watched it for the second time last night. It's good. Not boobies-all-in-my-face good, but it's good.

I've actually heard good things about John Wick from a lot of people. Maybe I'll Red Box it one day.

Temple Rankin Great human interest story. Think Rain Man without all the drama.

I have actually seen John Wick a few times. It is a good non stop action flick. If you like guns and violence then you will like it. I think he kills around 75 bad guys by the time it is done. (I tried to count the kills the second or third time watching it.
Another bad a$$ action film is The Equalizer with Denzel Washington. Not an award worthy film but still a good kick the bad guy's butt film to sit back and enjoy.

I think out of the 50 or so Red Box movies I have rented, The Equalizer was clearly the best.
