6 team playoff.
Reward 1 & 2 with a bye.
Seed 3 - 6 and play at the better seed’s home stadium.
First round winners play 1 & 2 at their homes.
Final 2 remaining teams play neutral site championship.
This way you reward and protect the teams that had the best regular seasons.
Fans won’t have to travel to multiple expensive neutral site games in a short time.
The stadiums will be packed. The only team playing an extra game (over the current system) would be if a 3 - 6 team makes the championship game. So if the seeds hold, nobody plays an extra game. If the seeds don’t hold, a maximum of 2 teams play an extra game.
6 teams is plenty. If you aren’t in the top 6, you don’t deserve a shot.
Alex.
I've always thought it should be 8 (conference champs + 3 at large), but this makes A LOT of sense. I like it!
