Trump will fix this. We (SBO's) have been fighting with the NLRB for a while.

What is the legal effect of the general counsel's opinion?

It is nothing more than the opinion of the current general counsel of the NLRB. Griffin was appointed to the job by President Barack Obama in 2013. His term ends in November. A new general counsel, appointed by President Donald Trump, could rewrite and reverse this opinion.

kind of open the doors to outright paying them eh? if classified as employees.. also theoretically they can change the academic requirements , so kids that wouldn't qualify before could make rosters

If they are employees then they can be fired with cause. I can just see some players going to the coaches about such things that they already can't talk to them about. It might be that the lawyer is surplus soon.

Hopefully that happens soon. These Obama appointees are trying all kinds of crazy crap on their way out the door.

Doesn't this ruin the amateur status? If you are an employee because you play football, then you are getting paid to play football. Won't that violate the NCAA's amateur provisions?
