Solid presser. Personally the best part was at no point did DM say ".....and yet"
We have a winner coach who is proud to be here. He knows our tradition and expects excellence! His enthusiasm is magnetic.. Big things coming soon outta Mullen and company!
Based on what exactly? Please do tell.
I liked what I heard and saw too. IMO, we are making real, measurable progress on all fronts. Of course that's not all that difficult to explain, considering who DM replaced. But I'm no longer focused on the past and there is concrete evidence that DM is going to turn out to be a strong hire. A very good, very solid class with some highly regarded talent (12 four stars) is nothing to feel badly about at this juncture. If we go through the Spring without any surpassingly stupid crap happening, and then look like some actual coaching and conditioning has taken place during the Spring game, I'll be ecstatic. The fact that DM can and will answer a legitimate question without getting snarky or talking through his bung hole is a big improvement as well.
Fourteen 4 stars, plus a 4 star (high 4 star) and a 5 star transfer.
Any reasonable person would consider that a borderline great transition class.
There’s your problem.
I know. More bluechippers than Butterteeths first and second class combined.
And it doesnt have a dozen Sunbelt level low 3 stars.
And yet, we have panic bc some toolbags thought we were going to get every star left on the board and announcing at 10:00 in ESPN.
Don't forget Butters Sub-Sunbelt coaches. Those boys oozed elite................
DM's reply when asked how he plans to keep pace with UGA...
"Listen, winning one SEC Championship Game doesn't make you a dominant program, you know what I'm saying?" Mullen said with a laugh. "In two of the last three years, we've been to the SEC Championship Game. So even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while."
Not sure if that's a throwdown with Kirby or Butters. Probably both LOL!
I would have expected someone like a highly touted Dan Mullen, especially with his reputation as a HC, would have a much better recruiting class, at least in the top 10. Did MAC hurt the reputation of Gator football that much?
Dan gets the expectation. He’s not conceding anything!
I thought he did.
I enjoyed the stuff about the helicopter (27-ish min mark). I like that he plans on doing more of it to reach the HS coaches. Wonder if dawg fans are starting a GoFundMe to get Kirby one?
I liked how, throughout, he had a sense of humor that I could relate to, unlike our last coach that seemed to be amusing himself in his own little world. Part of that humor was a relaxed attitude overall. Perhaps 'relaxed' isn't the right word - he never stopped moving, he was like a bottle of energy ready to pop. However, he was very 'comfortable' in this setting and able to answer any question confidently, directly, and with depth.
Such a change from our last two coaches. At least when it comes to media interaction.
That all sounded like fluff to me.
Really? Can you honestly say those thing about Mac?
Until actual games happen, we can only go by what we see. I see a coach that fits the quote above and a previous one that didn't.
I'm honestly shocked this isn't getting more discussion here. My Bama buddy texted me an article about this quote and was really surprised Mullen would make such a bold statement. Basically said that this was Mullen saying he wouldn't let Georgia take over the east.
To me, this is a very defining statement. He is basically laying down a couple huge points:
1 - I'm not McElwain and the two SEC East titles he brought here are not adequate. We can and will do better.
2 - I'm not scared of Georgia. We can and will compete with them and we will treat that game as the huge rivalry and season influencing game it should be.
To me this quote is massive and almost deserves it's own thread. The fact it is buried here and getting no discussion seems to not do it the justice it deserves.
The UGA pages are all over it. So are some of the top national analysts.
