We still play uno. They’ve added a few extra interesting wild cards in there that make it pretty cut throat.

Thank god the kids have moved on from Life. That game freaking sucks.

I didn't play much as a kid. I don't think my parents had much patience for it. I'm not so lucky. My family got a newer version that's a little more fun but still utterly a waste of time. There's an electronic device to track your score and you get ranked on wealth and children (have more kids, you win!), and my kids (9,12) sometime play around with same sex parents in their car. But anyway, the new version has four loops off a center loop and each focuses on something like life (adventures, trips, etc), wealth (career choice, education, etc) and you can trace through loops at your choosing over and over. Ultimately, it's a refresh but its still LIFE :loser:

        MONOPOLY!

Again, we didn't play when I was a kid, but with my family the story is different. My son kills at this game. We don't play the traditional, and the kids used some sort of 'executive billionaire' version that can be done in like 20 min (much more tolerable). But my son also got the Marvel version and is always begging for people to play with him. He has some natural luck in skipping other people's properties and getting the boardwalk equivalent all the time. I like it for the Marvel connection and references, but it is just as long and painful as regular monopoly. I avoid it when I can. My daughter, several years back, got some 'mall brat' version. Luckily she never took to board games much and we never got into that one.

I bought a huge collection of old Tonka trucks and tractors at a yard sale, $25 for the set. A quick browse of some of those collector's site indicate I can probably triple my money easily if I decide to sell them.

Wow, a lot of good ones in here. Board games were Risk, Monopoly and Life.

Also a shout out to Bart for Mille Bornes. I had forgotten about that game. It was French and I remember you were supposed to say "coup fourré" when you played a certain card. Remembering that made me just now look up what it meant. It means "counter thrust". I may use that term tonight!

As far as toys, like Brad I was into slot cars. We'd spend all day with those things. I still remember my friend Dan sending his speeding down a straight away and it caught fire and went flying off the track. We thought it was the coolest thing we'd ever witnessed.

Some other favorites going way back...

I forgot about building models. I got pretty good with those. if you wanted to do it correctly, they did take a ton of patience. Break the piece off, sand down any spurs, pre-paint, etc, etc. I had about 100 bottles of those tiny enamel colors.

I had a half dozen WW2 airplane models I made and hung around the room. Still kept a few, but I'll bet they have been crushed in storage over the years.

                ME-109, Spitfire, Hurricane, Mustang, etc.

Youngest 2 toddler sons would squeal with delight as the 13 year older boy and I would send it back and forth to each other on large kitchen floor.....wow...lights, sirens, reverse, loops and curves....more fun than the law allows. We coined the term "32nd level overload" for too many commands....lol...

think we had the baseball & basketball too, but this got the most play.

To say I've built a model or two would be an understatement of epic proportion.

My brother and I loved building models... just started again after 35 year hiatus... made the canvas mantlet cover out of epoxy putty, this is after priming with airbrush (another thing I could only dream of as a kid).

Side note: learned about “retrenchment” of a business at UF... “Coleco” stood for “Connecticut Leather Company”

now that you're no longer poor, you can pick one up at Hobby Lobby, or Wal-Mart.

Mortimer anyone? If you have a working pen it's worth quite a bit. My brother's dog chewed it up last year. I told him the pens can go for 200+ and he was ticked.
