Seriously, this can't be true, right? This is some kind of elaborate gag in very poor taste. It HAS to be....

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-partner="tweetdeck"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">The <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Patriots?src=hash">#Patriots</a> will hold a moment of silence before Thursday Night&#39;s game vs Kansas City to honor the late Aaron Hernandez.<br><br>Awesome move.</p>&mdash; Ian Rapoport (@Sp0rtsTalkJoey) <a href="">September 6, 2017</a></blockquote>

Wasn't he technically cleared on his record due to some weird state law they had?

Since he died before the appeal process his conviction was technically vacated.

A-hern did the world a favor so his wife (whom I think he married in jail) could sue the patriots for his unpaid bonus since he's not convicted.

Exactly. Look, the guy made some "bad choices" off the field, no one is denying that. He really needed to "grow up" as those "bad choices" affected his teammates and "created a distraction." But that shouldn't ruin the man's legacy. Plus, as you correctly pointed out, his conviction was overturned. Not guilty, ergo, worthy of his special day in Foxborough. Moment of silence please.

So UF is going to put his All-American brick back in place?

That is correct the dead with open appeals are deemed not guilty or some other foolish thing. He is dead and gone, hopefully he is getting a fair shake in the next life whatever that might be.

Is this a way to keep the state from being sued for something?

No way. Gotta be fake. The Pats kicked him off the team premises after the murder story broke but before he was arrested. No way they honor him at this point, regardless of the vacated conviction.

Those crooked bankers taught everyone that trick.
