Gene Clark was one of the founding members of the 60's rock group The Byrds. Done by many others, Petty's version is the best cover imo. After leaving the Byrds, Clark began jamming with Doug Dilliard and Bernie Leadon. Clark and Leadon later wrote Train Leaves Here This Morning and the song appeared on The Fantastic Expedition of Dilliard and Clark. Leadon later brought the song with him to The Eagles. Leadon's brother Tom of course plays with Petty in Mudcrutch.
I wondered who did the original... very cool to hear it. Agreed - Petty does it justice
My son turned me on to this duo... the girl plays a great fiddle. And I've always loved this Dylan tune:
That’s was awesome, Diddy. Thanks for sharing.
Those guys make some great music.
Damn near strangled by my appetite
Ybor City on a Friday night
Couldn't even stand up right
So high the street girls wouldn't take my pay
They said come see me on a better day
She just danced away
My brother sent me this one. Had to follow along with the lyrics the first time but its a pretty good tune. https://gregoryalanisakov.com/songs/the-stable-song
This is live - muy bien
Neil Young with Lukas Nelson's band
Everything about that was good
Good stuff, diddy.
There was a really good country band in the late 80's called The Desert Rose Band. They had Herb Pedersen (who backed EmmyLou and Linda Ronstadt and many others) and Chris Hillman (of the Byrds and Flying Burrito Bros). John Jorgenson was also in the band who is an insanely talented multi-instrumentalist. John (mandolin) and Herb (banjo) are in this one. If you watched the Andy Griffith show, the Dillards did this one:
Sorry if this is a repeat... I've always liked the original and the update is great:
Speaking of the Desert Rose Band.... Austin City Limits 1988 - doing an old Buck Owens song. Jay Dee Maness (pedal steel) and John Jorgenson ripping it up on the Telecaster at 1:02 :
