This is why it would be awesome if they sold beer during the Gator games. Even more entertainment!!!!

Pretty amazing what video can do to an opinion.

True, especially compared to one still photo which was much less to go on. The initial interaction in the lobby was quite revealing.

I realize video can be manipulated, ie the publix crabgate video most tally fans saw which left out the wandering around the store before exiting and reversed the time sequence of the guard leaving before winston, but there is also no doubt the sherrif' dept car video of Antonio' Morrision's supposed resisting of arrest ,etc revealed a very different story than the arresting officer report and thereby also changed the perceptions of a lot of people..

Haven't viewed the video. saw photo of the 2 at presser on yahoo news. Maybe it was just the shot. However, she has that beaten down ( literally) scared to leave him look. Don't kid yourself. He has most likely threatened to kill her or have her or family killed And every woman has said the emotional abuse is even more damaging to them. You can't assume she is intact enough to actually leave either. Yes, there usually is a lot of ambivalence, However, I gotta say, just from the still photo, she does not look ambivalent. I worked at one of the first crisis centers for battered women in the country. Many abusers make death threats. Most will not carry through with them. However, this is not a man, who by all accounts is remorseful. There were a couple of instance I knew of, in which women had to relocate across the country, or abusers chained their families, or in one case brought the wife to the office with a broken jaw to flaunt his power. I wasn't there that day I am aware of local law enforcement in their small towns forcing women whose children were being abused back to the home, and social services would not intervene because the woman ( who was chained at the time of appt) didn't show for appointments. Many abusive men ( or women) were abused as children, are carrying internalized rage, low self esteem, insecurity, from various things and explode on the safest people- family., And regret it later, but the pattern continues. Many learned this is acceptable also and don't' respect women. Some are very mentally disturbed, and some are criminal type enttiled a holes. There actually are some therapeutic approaches that work for abusers- depending on the specific person and the patterns. One of the early ones that seemed to be working involved learning to be emotionally intimate with men ( not business or sports talk) Key factor in change is acknowledging that it is happening and is unacceptable combined with a desire to stop responding that way. There is a lot of choice involved in abuse, but also for some, some strong physicological prompts that need to be recognized and altered. I include this, because I think it important to realize most abusive people are not merely monsters. Almost all the emotionally or sometimes physically/sexually abused male children that came in were set up to become abusers later. And the stories the women told about their partners life were worse than these kids. It really has generational components. The other surprise for me, was that what often caused the women to leave was discovering the sons were being sexually fondled by their spouse. ( these were women without financial resources mostly, so leaving was a huge step. I agree spousal and family violence should be labeled assault or battery. Why is it OK to be violent with your family when it is illegal elsewhere? The roots of accepting this go back centuries. .Sadly the nfl response is reminiscent of the special classification of non action that was given to physical crimes against family as late as the late 70's. It has been discouraging the last year ( winston rape case public and institutional responses and now this) to see how engrained the no big deal attitude is toward "domestic abuse". OTOH, the culture, and the legal/judicial system have become much more aware and non accepting of family violence compared with the 50s, for instance. Sorry for the discourse.
One liquored up aggressive goldigger + One liquored up NFL baller. What could possibly go wrong?

OK, I've seen the video instead of just one photo, and I don't think that is a terrified woman.- at all. Women who fear for their lives don't strike out in anger when it's not self defense. And yes, speaking of drama, Gator Fever, she appears to be very much ia part of the aggressive dynamic aspect of the relationship,.

Doesn't the length of time of marriage for 50% vary state to state.?

Yep my guess is she has a pretty strong attitude but Rice still needs to maintain himself. I don't see why so many are getting hyped up about the video now when they had already seen the video that she was knocked out coming out of the elevator. What did they think they would see ? That was about the minimum actions needed to knock her out probably.

Am I the only one here that thinks this video makes it seem less severe than what I originally thought? Heck, I thought his fist knocked her out, only to see this video and realize that he just knocked her down and that the railing was what knocked her out... That doesn't mean that I condone his actions. Also, in reading her lips, I could make out the words "Call roomservice yourself and order a ham sammich..."

That being said, the original video and confession should have been enough on its own to warrant him getting his butt handed to himself on a platter. This new video shouldn't warrant anything other than charges being filed, as it presents enough evidence on its own that the prosecutors wouldn't need cooperation from his then fiancee to press charges...

I agree this was the minimum I thought I would see considering she was knocked out already in the first video. Charges were already filed I think. I think he is doing pre-trial diversion but there is nothing in the law (I think) that differentiates between a male/female as far as an assault/battery goes so if she went to the stand saying she was attacking him first I doubt they could get a jury to convict him if he had a good lawyer saying it was a spontaneous self defense reaction with no time to think he was using too much force.

I know what you mean. It's odd. It was already established that he knocked her out.

People including the media underreactioned before, so now they are over-reaction due to the guilt of underreacting earlier.

Rice is clearly guilty of assault. Why wasn't he arrested? New Jersey law does not require the victim to press charges if there is other evidence a crime was committed. Thus a-hole is lucky he isn't locked up and protecting his fart hole right now.
A grand jury charged him with aggravated assault. However a judge allowed him into a pretrial intervention program which would delay prosecution.

For me, I knew he knocked her out before so I don't need a video to show me exactly how. What the video showed me is what the first couple of posters already mentioned, he reaction after seeing the 'love of his life' get knocked the f*%& out. It was a reaction of 'great, now I have to deal with this'. I don't think he would have treated her any differently if he was moving a dead body. There was zero concern or remorse.

What this just goes to show is how obsessed we are as a nation with these thugs because they can run fast or do things with a ball. Its despicable. I've ranted many times about how I hate the fact that we have folks just like this wearing our school colors and representing our university on game day.

Schools should have and enforce strict standards, both academic and behavioral. The NFL and other pro leagues should have similar standards. Instead, some guy does drugs or beats somebody up and he gets a slap on the wrist, a mere dent in his millions in salary. And to top it off, our society is so messed up that the resulting increase in name recognition might actually help said a-hole sell merchandise. Freaking joke.

Meanwhile, if I were busted with drugs or convicted of a felony, I would lose my ability to work in my profession permanently. It would cost me everything.

No. You are not the only one. I had imagined a battered woman syndrome pattern, and that is not what I saw. They both are physical and aggressive. He is just WAY more powerful and could do more damage. These 2 should be supervised closely if they have kids.
