From a straight raw tools perspective, there aren’t many better, if any, when talking cornerback recruits in the country than Pasadena (Calif.) John Muir standout
Elijah Blades, who gave Florida verbal Wednesday afternoon.
The fastest man at February’s Nike Football The Opening Regional in Los Angeles, the 6-foot-2, 170-pound Blades ran a laser-time 4.42 40-yard dash.
The combination of size, speed, length and ball skills is elite.
Blades flew under the radar for most of the process as he tightened some things up off the field but no denying what he can do on it as Florida addresses one of its biggest needs in the 2017 recruiting cycle with a talented player that brings instant impact ability because of all his athletic gifts.
Blades, who had just one offer from San Jose State in February, used a big spring to see his offer list eventually include the Gators, Arizona, Colorado, Nebraska and Utah.
In March in Las Vegas at the Pylon 7-on-7 National Championships Blades used his great speed to be a playmaker in the secondary getting his hands on multiple footballs a game. A two-way player on Fridays that also makes an impact on special teams, Blades is an aggressive player with good instincts and ball skills. 247Sports ranks him as the No. 13 cornerback in America.
I could easily seeing Blades playing corner or nickel at Florida and he’s just as comfortable in press as he is playing off.
