Walmart said it will close 269 stores in 2016, as the mega-retailer tries to revitalize its slumping finances.

The company said the stores it plans to close are generally poor performers, and most are within 10 miles of another Walmart. 154 of the locations are in the United States, two-thirds of which are the smaller "Walmart Express" stores. Only 12 U.S. Walmart Supercenters will close, along with four Sam's Club stores.

Of the 16,000 associates -- or employees -- to be affected, 10,000 will be in the United States. The company aims to place those associates in nearby Walmarts.

That, and every Walmart I know is an absolute dump with the worst costumer service on the planet. People are sick of it. I am also seeing a million of these "dollar general" stores popping up. I wonder if they are cutting into it.

I agree. I won't shop at walmart. They treat their employees like sh+t and are complete dumps.

I like Walmart. There are two stores less than 3 miles from my house and they are always clean and well stocked. One is a Neighborhood Market which took over an old Food Lion space that had been vacant for several years. The business this store has generated has breathed new life into what was once a small struggling boutique mall. The Neighborhood Market store is located between 2 Publix stores that are less than 3 miles apart and it enjoys a thriving business. It is primarily a grocery/pharmacy with some soft goods. The savings on the groceries for the identically same items at Publix or Winn Dixie is huge. Walmart is second only to Amazon in web sales and they also offer the convenience of ordering online and picking up at this store. What makes this attractive to many of their shoppers is that 25% of them are non-credt/debit buyers. I can't speak about how they treat their workers, but they provide employment for a lot of people.

So is working for a sewer drain cleaning company or washing dishes at Golden Corral or feeding hogs. Some people have no choice in what they do. Most appreciate being able to work at these jobs til they find something better. Some people choose not to work and prefer to sit around and drink beer, smoke weed all day and live on welfare

Bingo. Kudos to those who actually go out and get jobs, no matter what they are. Work hard, and one job will lead to a better one.

By the way, next time you pay the clown that cuts your lawn or the greasemonkey that changes the oil in your car, be sure and tell him he's got a crappy job.

You can make $20/hr cleaning drains in Houston. Walmart is a whole other level. They do things like steal time from employees and lock them in the stores. Why do you think they have such bad attitudes towards their customers? When is the last time you have seen anybody in Walmart smile?

They don't have crappy jobs. When I get my oil changed, it's anywhere from $300-$900 so the Greasemonkeys are making bank. What makes Walmart crappy has more to do with their crappy wages.

Wow it's amazing that this is all you guys think about. People on welfare. We could completely eliminate welfare and still have the same problems.

That's not the perspective being discussed. I know some people who work with **** (used to myself to an extent) and they love their job. They are treated as a person. Of course their company does not put up with crappy people either. You conform or u leave.

Only a damn democrat would think that losing your job is better than working for Walmart. Exactly the kind of critical thinker who would pay 900 bucks to get his oil changed.

The original poster brought up the crappy wages. My comment was making a comparable. You brought up the crappy wages as well as employees and patrons. I am a patron of Walmart. I don't appreciate your crappy generalization.
