No, it's fine where it is. We didn't seem to have a problem winning the NC 2 out of 3 years in 06 & 08 playing them the last week of the regular season. The issue now is we just haven't been that good the past 7 years. It's not the scheduled weekend that needs to change...it's our team's level of play that needs to change!

I vaguely remember growing up when UF would close the season with their last two games being the Semenholes and scUM.

Don't move it.

What decade was that?

Answered my own question with a Google search. I had always remembered the Miami game as a season opener or early September game but you're right, we did play them and FSU at the end of the season up until about 1980 and didn't move the game to September until then.

For nostalgia and tradition purposes sure keep it at the end.
BUT if we want it to benefit us move it to the beginning because it definitely benefits FSU by playing at the end

Ever since the creation of the SEC Championship game it should have been moved.
Besides that Spurrier wants it at the beginning of the season. That's good enough for me.

On a go forward basis, with a half way decent offense, a good defense and a quality head coach, we should kick the crap out of these guys 4 out of every 5 times we play them. We should beat them this coming season by 10+ points, no excuses, so leave it as is and knock their sorry asses out of contention and spoil their entire off-season. If Mac can't get the job done, bring in a coach who can.

The problem I see with it being the season opener is so many positions on the depth chart remain unsettled, you almost can't be sure if a win or a loss is an accurate reflection of where you are. It's become a big Thanksgiving weekend tradition and it should probably stay that way.

Cancel? Blasphemy. Why? We're their betters. We will continue to play them. If Mac continues to lose to them we'll find a real coach. No worries.

Spurrier was 4 for 12 in that game. Why? He all but openly admitted that the SEC championship was more important. There's no benefit for us in having the game at the end of the season.
Recruiting: Same for both teams
Depth chart: Same for both teams
Bragging rights: Same for both teams
Injuries: Florida plays a more physical SEC schedule. Advantage F$U
Championship game opponent: The ACC coastal division winner has had an average ranking of 14th (one year they weren't even ranked). The average SEC West winner over that same period was ranked 2.5. Advantage F$U.

Quite simply F$U can prep more for us then we can for them.
If the goal is winning the SEC then not having the F$U game at the end of the season is to our advantage. If the goal is making the playoffs winning the SEC almost guarantees it, unless you have a late season loss. If the goal is winning an NC then it's a lot easier to pull off 3 wins in a row against top 10 teams than it is to pull of 4 in a row.

But if your goal is to have a game to watch Thanksgiving weekend then gud4u.

Does anyone know what UF's and FSU's strength of schedule was prior to the SEC title game?

Just curious.

Where is the cancel the yearly series and replace it with a rotating series will all the D1A Florida schools option?

They need us a lot. We don't need them at all. Our SOS is fine without them.
Never going to happen. We already catch a lot of flack for canceling the annual Miami game.
Dropping fsu from the schedule would bring about more of the same. Besides, it would
just invite the Legislature to step in again and mandate the game.

Their team was also much better back then and had been rolling for several years before Spurrier even arrived. As SOS was just getting started that certainly had an impact on his record in the series. Bottom line is by and large, FSU's program has regressed since joining the ACC with the exception of a couple decent years a few years back. Their success over the recent past has more to do with the fact that their 2 biggest rivals (us and Miami) have been very mediocre than it does with FSU and Jimbo suddenly becoming dominant again.
