Another number is that the facts say that we are actually 1-7 after tomorrow with losses to IRMA and the BYE week. The only real win was vs Vandy...

I remember there was one year under Meyer, might've been '07 can't remember specifically, but it was deep into the season like game 8 or so, and we hadn't given up a single yard in punt returns until then. The special teams coverage and return games are atrocious, we don't even attempt to block kicks and half the time we let the punt bounce and roll 20 yards. We fair catch inside the 10, and we return kickoffs out of the end zone. This may actually be a worse coached area than the damn offense. We've been very fortunate to have an outstanding kicker and punter to help cover up some of these deficiencies. The fact that Mac ha so allowed this area to get so bad, is proof that he don't have a damn clue how to manage a football team.
The phrase we don't even try is so true. Been killing me that we make no effort

Here's some more fun with numbers...

Meyer, who instilled dominance in the kicking game while at Florida that helped the Gators win two national championships in a three-year span. Three of Meyer's Florida teams led the SEC in net punting and five of the six ranked in the top 10 nationally. Florida led the nation in Meyer's six years with the program by allowing only 361 cumulative punt return yards. Taking it a step further, Meyer's Florida teams won all 16 of its games where its special teams units blocked a punt and never failed to block multiple punts in a season.

Correct
Absolutely they COULD. IF they started lighting up the scoreboard every week and winning games by large numbers they would be loved. Fans are a fickle bunch and will love what you have done for us lately. Would we still LOVE butters? Maybe not because he is just so damn dislike-able. It would be in everyone's best interest here for him to do very well and avoid having to find another coach but we see the writing on the wall.

... such a correct & dudeble sentiment. There's certainly a strong benefit to a program being more attractive, with more ongoing stability ... 'andyet' if GatChat is a croossection of GatorNation, this section is cross. Fans less involved than recruits question why a CFB NFL hopeful would want to come here to be coached & developed by this McCrew??

UGa's Kirby Smart hire is showing to be a solid meteoric rise -- no charlatin there, no fairy-dust wins leaned on.
Maybe, if there is no dominant hire available for Stricklin & boosters, then think outside the box. First brainstorm with Spurrier to set up a list of #1-tier HC hires (lock up staff hires too), #2-tier HCs and juggle with those targets to gauge their interest & their conditions.

Wouldn't it be great to hire an interim HC with $2 million dollar buyout & public acknowledgement that this can be temporary but morphing into permanence based on reaching certain production goals i.e. Offense ranking better than #60, Defense better than #50, averaging more than 24 points/game? Making this conditional contract public should eliminate the front-end hurdle of the stigma of being "not chosen to continue"after 1 year.. Kerwin Bell might forgo a lot of financial gimmy-grabby $ stuff that's burned us so much that it coerces us to keep coaches (McNuss) who actually diminish players' skills.

K.Bell will have Spurrier's "help", whereas Mac would repel Spurrier's involvement. (If Bell falls short of the agreed-on goals then his release will not hurt his "re-hireability". Stricklin, Spurrier & Bell all three could gurantee that Bell's worth will rise -- hell you know Bell would leave UF in better shape than Mac. Bell is an improvement over the hire of Mac & we hired Mac for $4.5 mill/year with a $12mill buyout. Offer Bell with a $3 mill/year salary & a $2 mill buyout -- a case of getting more than what we pay for.

Ridiculing Bell or his HC-ing UF is invalid negativity. But please list your decents #1, #2, #3 and I will respond in kind #1, #2, #3. Let's be smart considering the dour position UF football is in now.

It’s actually beyond belief that you can see those figures and even entertain the idea of retaining the staff. This is some of the worst special teams play in the history of college football.
And yet... IMG_20171009_200109.jpg Greg Nord is a special coach...he'll get things turned around!

The myth of Nussmeir/McElwain being good at "scripting" the opening drive/early game.

UF's first two drives of each game vs. rest of the game:

Florida in 2017:

Michigan:
First 2 drives: 9 plays - 44 yards - 3 points
Rest of Game: 44 plays -148 yards - 0 points

Tennessee:
First 2 Drives: 18 plays - 67 yards - 3 points
Rest of Game: 39 plays - 313 yards - 16 points

Kentucky:
First 2 Drives: 8 plays - 53 yards - 0 points
Rest of Game: 55 plays - 342 yards - 28 points

Vanderbilt:
First 2 Drives: 13 plays - 69 yards - 7 points
Rest of Game: 64 plays - 398 yards - 31 points

LSU:
First 2 Drives: 11 plays - 59 yards - 0 points
Rest of Game: 43 plays - 243 yards - 16 points

TAMU:
First 2 Drives: 16 plays - 64 yards - 3 points
Rest of Game: 52 plays - 307 yards - 14 points

Average:
First 2 drives all season: 75 plays, 356 yards, 4.75 Yards per play, 16 points, 22.25 YPP which is BAD
Rest of Game all season: 297 plays, 1751 yards, 5.89 Yards per play, 105 points, 16.68 YPP which is OK

Interesting that we haven't scored a TD on an opening drive all year. 3 of those with a FG ,and 3 with no points. Ironically enough I believe the Vandy game, which was by far our best offensively is the only game we began with a 3 and out.

(from Marty Cohen), this is ridiculous....and there are literally people who want to keep the OC (Nord isn't getting much love, but Nussmeir is - for some unknown reason):

Some (forgettable) numbers of note:

* It’s beyond ridiculous that in six games, Florida has not recovered a fumble. Florida is now the only FBS team in the nation to not pounce on a loose ball, and including FCS teams, 252 squads in all, only Florida and VMI have yet to recover a fumble in 2017, and VMI is 0-7 with a 13-game losing streak. Since 1950, only one Gator team has recovered less than six fumbles in a season, when the 2009 edition (of all teams) recovered just three . . .

* Florida is just 5-13 against the SEC West since the 2010 season . . .

* Florida has given up a whopping 223 yards in punt returns in six games, by far the most in the nation . . .

* Florida stands No. 105 in the nation in total offense, averaging just 351.2 yards per game. The Gators have reached 400 yards just once in the last 13 games (Vanderbilt a few weeks back), since piling up 523 on Missouri last season. More than half the FBS teams (68) are averaging 400 yards a game . . .

* Only four teams have thrown fewer touchdown passes than Florida’s four so far – Georgia Southern (3), Rice (3), Troy (2) and Army (1). Winless Georgia Southern has attempted only 74 passes in five games, while Troy is actually averaging a healthy 253 yards a game in the air, Rice is 1-5 and has been out-scored 218-70 and Army has completed eight passes in seven games. Opponents have thrown for more passing yards than Florida in every game in 2017 . . .

* Want to know why the SEC East is so weak, again – try horrible offenses. Five of the seven teams in the division are in the bottom 30 nationally in total offense – Florida (No. 105), Kentucky (106), South Carolina (112), Tennessee (116) and Vanderbilt (124), with Georgia (36) and Missouri (41) the outliers.

And we are supposed to believe mac is an "offensive guru"? Honestly, these stats alone should be enough to have mac fired yesterday... what are they waiting for? Forget all the "threat" BS. This paltry, pathetic, inept, and incompetent staff needs to go, immediately. This is inexcusable, at any point, under any circumstances.
