The U.S. Supreme Court will allow more states to legalize sports betting, breaking up Nevada's monopoly on the practice, according to a ruling Monday.

The court upheld the legality of a 2014 state law permitting sports betting at New Jersey casinos and horse racetracks and voided the federal Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act. Some states see sports betting, like lotteries, as a potentially important source of tax revenue.

The Supreme Court justices struck down the entire federal law on a 6-3 vote.

Interesting that it was a 6-3 decision with Ginsburg, Sotaomayor and Breyer as the dissent.

Typical libs - they want more centralized control and fewer freedoms allotted to the states and individuals.

This could be a boom for sports web sites...such as this one.

It'll be very interesting to see what affect (if any) this has on outcomes. It's funny that it was technically illegal even though sports gambling is already rampant. I suppose if it generates tax revenue, why not?

I tend to agree they do not think the 10th amendment is about anything.

Tax revenue is owed even on illegal activities.
