They'll probably meet in the world series.
Thanks for the update on that. Gators still looking really good. Seems like we are taking all of our opponents seriously. The mid-week pitching is so much better than last year (so far), and the hitting has been much better too. Can't wait to see how we look against FSU on the 13th. Will Sully save one of our better starters for this or get a freshman some big game action?
UCF might be a tough opponent for this weeks mid-week games as well. They have been lighting up the scoreboard lately and won 7 in a row. Keep it up Gatas.
Our better starters are also known as our weekend starters. Weekend starters never start in mid-week games, regardless of opponent. But you're correct, the freshman pitching mid-week games look outstanding so far.
I thought maybe we would save a weekend starter in game 3 against our opponent this weekend in order to save it for FSU on Tuesday. I'm sure it's been done somewhere before. Anyway, I would suspect you are right and Sully just sticks with a young gun
Last year Liput hit .227 ..... he needs to do better with the lineup we've got now.
Liput was 2nd in RBIs last year with 37.
We've definitely had some lesser teams use their weekend guys against us in mid-week games, but UF and all the big boys pretty much stick to their rotation. If you skip a Sunday start to pitch on Tuesday, you either have to bring him back on short rest or skip the next start, as well. Sully will pitch them on short rest in the post season, but almost never during the regular season. I'd love to pitch Dyson against the holes, but it's just not feasible.
Looks like we lost 9-7 @ UCF last night. Pitching was HORRIBLE. 9 ER, 15 hits, 10 walks, 9 SO, 5 stolen bases. Gators hit 3 HRs. We play them again tonight at Gainesville.
Good to see 7 runs but 9 runs against us... woof. Hope we get better pitching against FSU in a week.
I heard UCF is making NCAA Baseball National Champ t-shirts now, since they beat us last night. Not sure how true this is or not....
... in that case UCF will be Scott's guests at the Governor's Bawl.
College baseball is the best bargain in sports entertainment. General Admission seats are $4, Reserved seats go from $6-$10, depending on whether you want chairback and where you want to sit. Sundays, GA admission is $1, with $1 popcorn and Pepsi. For as great a program as we consistently have, fans don't go to the games and support this program like they should. We were 10th in attendance last year with 156,768 going to 41 games. But we're 7th in the SEC and behind FSU. LSU had 418,291 attend 39 games and Arkansas, Ole Miss, Miss. St. and South carolina all had over 250,000 go to their home games. Come On, Gators, Get up & Go!!!
Are we baseball's da' U?
100% certain now that UCF swept the 2 game mid week series, LOL
still early in the season, no panic just yet...
UCF is beginning to piss me off ... that state of Florida champion school thingy.
Note: Deacon Liput returned from a season-opening suspension and started at shortstop. He went 0-for-2 with two walks and played errorless ball on the field.
Thanks BMF. Hope he gets his bat together
The mythical state championship is on the line beginning next week also with the 13-0 noles coming to town and they will have probably taken over the top spot in the rankings before we play unless they fall to the deacons. Unfortunately, we will probably need to continue with our mid-week rotation against f$u, because our following weekend games are sec opponents (g-cocks). Before then we need to improve against the snow birds this weekend.
If we win, UCF will claim it having swept UF this week. The banners are being printed and the trophy engraved as I type.
